I tried to do some searching for this, but came up dry. Going to Vegas next week to play, and wanted to know the best pool halls, or bars to play in.

Thanks, Mack

There is also Pool Sharks on Decatur but it's more of a teen rec joint with crappy tables and 55 gallon drums for pockets.

Enjoy your visit,
Rip

If you go to the Cue Club, make sure you get a table on the right side of the room--the tables on the left side are crap.

Good advice Fliedout. The left side is "reserved" for the gangbangers and teenyboppers.

Tables 1 thru 10 on the right side are decent with 7 & 8 being preferred for action.

Have fun,

Hi Mack,

The Cue Club is always a great place to find action. Pool Sharks does have three excellent "big" tables. Bar box action can be found at the Rumrunner on Tropicana at Spencer. The'll know whos up for some bar box action. Crystal Palace on Bonanza and Eastern has lots of action. Better bring a body guard though. Friday night at Dealers Choice on Spring Mountain Road near Decatur. Saturday night at Double Diamond Saloon on Jones at Cheyenne. Pinkie's is closed!

Stop by the Cue Club and ask for Greg. Same with "Thumbs" at the Sharks. They'll find you some action if you want it. There is also a Southern Nevada Pool League magazine that lists all the bar box events. Stop by any bar for one. Good luck.

Cue Club is a great place. Too bad Cue Topia is gone, it used to be owned by former womens champion Mary Kenniston and her husband Fred Guarino.

Pool Sharks is best well skipped, though I did like having a table located in a pit. The reason why I suggest skipping Sharks is that I was playing and few younger guys asked me & my brother inlaw to play for $10 race to 5 9-ball. Well it took them about 45 minutes to actually get up and play, espcially since they asked us, so they tried to clock our action for that time. Well we "lost" and I wanted to play some singles with them and they quit. For the next hour or so, nobody wanted to play either one of us, they thought we were road players. Now, we were not looking for action at all, just hitting some balls then leaving. I met "thumbs", he is a nice guy. It is a younger crowd there. They didn't want us to play in there tournaments, go figure...

Hi Rip,

I found tables 7,8 & 10 to have the tight pockets without all the shims some of the others had. First time I've seen gold crowns done with the longer rails, really liked the way they played. Good pool hall.

Er, you might remember me as Ras.

Hi Ras,

You have quite an eye for detail...must be that injuneerin' thing! Next time you're in town we'll put those tables through their paces, ok?

One more thing---are you sure you don't want to sell that J. Justis case?? LOL!!

Rip~never wins a frickin' raffle!

I maybe wrong, but isn't Cue Topia out of business? It used to be owned by Mary Kenniston (former womens world champion) and her husband Fred Gaurino.

Hi Shorty,

Most of the rooms you mentioned are no longer open. Its a sad thing but true. I was discussing this sad fate with the Cue Club owner. Henry does a lot for the game. If the smoking law before the Nevada Legislature is passed, some more of the local rooms will join the list. Most of them earn their profits not from the pool tables but the video poker machines and liquor sales. Forcing their patrons out into the heat to smoke will close them. Luckily for some, the major casinos are exempt from this law. Who would have guessed that!

Wow I am sorry to hear about those rooms closing...I had no idea. A buddy of mine compiled this list back in February of this year. I still believe the Cue Club to be the best on the list. Also, about the non-smoking rules...I am all for them since I am a non-smoker myself. Heck I am having a leather wrap put on my cue just so I can hope to block out some of the smoke smell.

Rip,

I ain't about to let go of the only raffle winnings in my life. :D

I lost a race to five over in Tucson when I was up 4 to 1 by rattling the eight in one of those damned triple shimmed GC's. It should have dropped and bugged me so bad I couldn't shoot from then on. Anyway I've been checking that kind of thing ever since in hopes of not blowing my game again when weird things happen.

Will give you a holler if I'm in Las Vegas again.

Pinkies Closed?

I was in Pinkies on 5/9/05 and it was open then. You say it is now closed. The "pink" tables had turned into blue though.

Hi Curt,

One of the players on a Vegas Cue Club team managed there. Mark's last day was during the week of May 16th. I believe it will become part of a parking lot for a new casino related to The Rio. I'm in Rochester now. Perhaps one of our members from Vegas can update us.
