Best Videos?

I'm still quite new to many aspects of the game and just wondering if anyone watched a certain video or guide that really helped them learn a lot about the game that could maybe benefit me to play better.

P.S on a side note does the bronze by my name on the top right control panel section ever change to gold?

I would recommend ZeroX from Tor Lowry if you are relatively new to the game.

But His first 'suggestion' is to cue balls from one corner straight into the other corner pocket 3000 times before going to the nest step.

It's up to you.

There is also a Dr. Cue serious on YouTube sponsored by both APA & CSI.

Good Luck & Best Wishes.

PS I don't know why I forgot, maybe because some of his stuff is rather advanced, but CJ Wiley has a good beginners DVD too.

I'll second the Tor Lowry videos. you can find his pools biggest secrets videos on youtube, they have a lot of the basic info you need as far as tangent lines and so forth. I wouldn't go too crazy with a lot of time spent with learning material and I would stay away from aiming systems at least at first. I've seen a lot of players burn themselves out by overthinking the game before they could really understand anything they were trying to implement.

Time spent on the table is the biggest key to this game. Once you get comfortable getting in line and pocketing balls, learn your natural tangent lines. Once you can predict and follow the proper tangent lines start experimenting with sidespin. Once you can make that cue ball do what you want you will be able to digest and implement whatever new training materials you want and really start to dive into advanced cueing and strategy.

When you can't get to the table to practice I would watch high quality matches on youtube of the best players and soak in everything they do at the table. That probably has been my best teacher over the years. Everybody is different though you may learn quite well diving right into text book type stuff. I always found it easier to establish comfort first and then really dig in deep to the more cerebral stuff. Kind of like the Suzuki method of learning music. Anyhow, I hope you find at least one thing I said somewhat useful. Good luck and welcome.

Another vote for Tor. He has an extensive collection of videos on YouTube. Start with this one and you will have enough useful material to work on to keep you busy for the first year or so.

After you have mastered everything in this video, go ahead and buy his 3-DVD set on pattern play and cue ball control. It is very inexpensive compared to everything else in the industry, and is chock full of great stuff. You will learn the heart of the game, which is knowing where and how to move the cue ball to the best position for the next shot. If you get through that entire set and practice all the time you will be well on your way to being a solid player.

Yep, the Tor videos are fantastic! The fact that the whole 3 hour video is available for free on YouTube is amazing because it's probably the best produced pool video I've ever seen and it's one of the few that are offered up at no cost. Perfect resource for a beginner.

Pro Action match from TAR. Shane vs Alex Round 1. Probably the best pool match I have ever watched. Think it is currently on demand at www.theactionreport.com. Ive watched more pro matches rather then instructional videos and always find them very insightful.

Darren's video from TAR is very good too, lots of useful drills and info in there as well as it's 2nd part.

What is your skill level, so an appropriate recommendation can be made.

I was talking with a friend the other day and telling me of his former teammate. She is equivalent to an SL2 at best, running anything beyond 2-3 balls is suspect. Someone in the poolhall recommended she purchase a break/jump cue and she got it into her head to work on her jumping ability than improve her shot making.

I advocate mastering fundamentals before moving on to game theory.

Tor Lowry. You should start of using center bottom and top and go from their. Don't worry about anything else.

TOR.....TOR......TOR!

Great stuff. Most of his content is free on youtube and you can purchase some of his more advanced content as well. Worth watching for sure and also worth investing in his product (I expect you will agree after watching the great free content he has online).

I've only played in APA but I'm a 5 in 8 and 4 in 9 but should be moving up to 9 also

Yep, you have to learn how to drive before you use a road map.

skip instructional videos, watch matches on youtube and try to mimick what the pros do, as you mimick pro's, youll find what style works for you.

the variables you're going to be changing are your stance, stroke length, pause on the backswing and number of pre strokes.

Work on your stroke.

You'll drive yourself nuts with aiming systems, CB control, strategy, etc. because none of it will work unless you have a straight, repeatable, smooth stroke.

As mentioned previously, Tor Lowry's Zero-X DVD has a great stroke explanation and trainer/drill.

I could probably put a video together of how NOT to shoot on a pool table! Should I start a gofundme site for that lol?

I read your posts just to see your avatar....but I do read the posts.

If you're looking for free instructional videos, many are available on my YouTube Channel. If you want high-quality, organized, complete, and detailed instructional DVDs, you might benefit from some of my stuff available at Dr. Dave Billiards.

Enjoy, and good luck with your game,
Dave
