Do you guys have any recommends on the best way to ship a cue and two shafts? What type of box or tube is best and where do you get them? Is it best to just bubblewrap and tape each piece really well or are there other precautions?
thanks!
chris

put them in a pvc pipe and in bubble wrap that way the box can be bet to hell and the cue would be just fine

Well as Sandiegofan can attest to. Here is the way i usually do it....

1st... I wrap the cue in old cloth or towels (this absorbs any moisture from the cue sitting in the back of a hot ups/fed-ex or usps truck going cross country.

2nd...I usually put it in an old case i may have lieing around the house.

3rd....I go to the post office and get 1 of their white tubes. (if i don't have 1 on hand)

4th... and final i get another tube from UPS which is larger and i put paper in 1 end and then put the white tube inside the larger tube and more paper to that end and then just tape the ends good with packing tape or duct tape and ship......you can get tubes at both UPS and the USPS... I know it seems like over kill but i will guarantee you that if it gets dropped the cue won't get hurt at all.................mike

get some triangular priority mail boxes from usps- supplies - they are free and delivery takes a week or two.

priority mail will arrive quickly, 2-3 days and with insurance and delivery confirmation will run about $12-$14.

Here's how I do it:

Wrap the butt and shaft(s) in bubble wrap (the "small bubble" type). Once wrapped, tape the bubble warp nice and snug (use packing tape). Place the butt and shaft(s) in individual cardboard shipping tubes. Place the tubes in a suitably sized, heavy duty cardboard box. Fill in the box with your choice of plastic peanuts, or wadded up newspaper. Tape the box up and you're good to go.

cjarmst, I use a USPS PRIORITY MAIL box design for blueprint and large document. Nice thing its free. box measurement: 36" lenght x 5 1/2" width, its form a traingle when unfolded. I use a clear cue sleeve [I got my at the Billiard Suppliers]. Then I use bubblewrap and packing peanut. you can use newpapers in the bottom and top of box, for stuffing.

Bob

Distributors plastic sleeve, then bubble wrap. I can usually reuse what I scavange from work. I can fit up to 4 cues in the free USPS triangle boxes. I always insure. I get stuff from west coast to east priority mail in 2 or 3 days. Only 1 in 200 ever hurt. I am not to sure that was not a scam. Usps took care of it on his end.

Personally when I have SHIPPED a Cue I wrap it is Cotton Flannel to Cushion the Cue, than Place the Cue in a Piece of PVC Pipe from the Hardware Store.

The PVC Pipe is 1.5 inches too long for the Cue on both ends. The ends are Stuffed with Bubble WRAP. Than I Tape the Ends Shut, and the Pipe goes into a U.S. Postal Service Priority Triangle. (free at the post office)

Post Office has done well for me with No Damage, or Lost Shipments. Also there is Local Claims Agent to handle problems that I have never had with a Cue Shipment.

I save any and all packing materials and boxes I receive from previous items deliverd to me. I just shipped a cue, and used a divided poly sleeve from when I got my X-Breaker, and then slipped that inside a foam envelope-type sleeve. Since I didn't have any bubblewrap, I wrapped the sleeve up in lots of newspaper, and then used newspaper for padding to stabilize the cue from movement. This was all slipped into a triangular shipping carton.

The key here is to ship in the most expedited manner as possible. I have said it before, and I'll say it again: THE LESS TIME IT SPENDS IN THE CARRIER'S HANDS, THE LESS LIKELY IT IS TO SUFFER DAMAMGE OR LOSS! I would NEVER ship a cue by means of a ground carrier...period. Having worked inspecting damaged packages for FedEx Ground, trust me on this. The slowest way I would ship a cue would be via USPS Priority Mail...other wise, it's Overnight or 2nd Day.

For what it's worth, and since I don't work for them anymore, please note that FedEx Ground has THE leakiest trailers on the planet, and their package handlers DO NOT know how to load a trailer properly. If you want your cues wet and possibly broken from having a 100lb box stacked on top of them...go ahead and ship FedEx Ground.

Did UPS Pay a Damage Claim, or say Sorry it was Packaged WRONG, and not up to our Specifications. 2 Inches of Protective Material on ALL SIDES. NEW BOX, etc. etc. etc. and more excuses?

Probably not part of the question, BUT don't ship the cue to a foreign country, had a young friend who did and his container was returned, EMPTY.
no money was offered or given by the USPS because it was shipped out of the country...:(

i don't know what happened. i never opened the package. my ups guy said best not to accept it. the seller did get his insurance claim paid and i got my reufund from him, no problems. if i remember correctly, i thought he said the cue would be destroyed, what was left of it.
in hindsight, i wish i would have opened it now. maybe the butt, the best part of the cue, was still intact.

This can't be right. If they accept the purchase of insurance on the package going overseas, then, as long as the guidelines for packaging was followed, they should provide compensation.
