I recently purchased a discontinued tip and was wondering what is the best way to store them?
Leather can dry out with age. Best to keep in a small zip lock bag, away from heat. I once thought about keeping them in a cigar humidor but then decided not to, thinking the humidity might cause mold to grow on the leather.
I use a vacuum sealer for all my extra tips. I get the roll of vacuum seal bags that you can cut to size and just make a few small bags and use those.I recently purchased a discontinued tip and was wondering what is the best way to store them?
Mold doesn't grow on cigars in the humidor, leather is much less susceptible mold than cigars.
Personally I haven't seen any evidence of age on tips even a decade old when left inside in a relatively dry area.
Being dry isn't what hurts leather. Getting most/wet then drying out can hurt leather. I am wearing a leather jacket that I bought used fifteen years ago and it has been through the wringer many times. Still fine.
Rick, I’ve been storing all my tips in a small cigar humidor for years; so far no problem. Cigars will keep for decades in a properly maintained humidor (approximately 70 degrees and 70% humidity). I still have some cigars from the late 80’s and early 90’s in great shape. The key is to maintain the proper storage condition. I only store tips in a separate humidor.Leather can dry out with age. Good to know, Tom. Like I said, I just wasn't sure about keeping leather tips in the humidor. Now I know. I also kept cigars for many years in my humidors, humidity and temperature always maintained. Some brands would develop a bloom on the wrapper leaf, some not. I no longer smoke cigars and my humidors have become storage boxes. Leather can absolutely grow mold
Why does leather grow mold and how to fix it?
Given the high cost of high-quality leather these days, no one wants mould developing on their leather things, or simply smelling mildew or a musty odour on them. It is really frustrating to discover that you have a mould problem in a leather jacket, leather handbag, leather boots, leather...highonleather.com
Rick, I wish we lived closer so I could share with you a really nice Cohiba Esplandido or Monte Christo #2 torpedo (the real ones) over a game of pool. Covid has pretty much killed recreational pool for me.Good to know, Tom. Like I said, I just wasn't sure about keeping leather tips in the humidor. Now I know.
