Best way to store tips?

Leather can dry out with age. Best to keep in a small zip lock bag, away from heat. I once thought about keeping them in a cigar humidor but then decided not to, thinking the humidity might cause mold to grow on the leather.

Mold doesn't grow on cigars in the humidor, leather is much less susceptible mold than cigars.

Personally I haven't seen any evidence of age on tips even a decade old when left inside in a relatively dry area.

Being dry isn't what hurts leather. Getting most/wet then drying out can hurt leather. I am wearing a leather jacket that I bought used fifteen years ago and it has been through the wringer many times. Still fine.

Leather will dry out, thus an endless supply of leather products to restore, preserve, etc. I've replaced leather tips on old house cues that were so old and dry that they were hard as a rock. Down here in Louisiana we have very high humidity. The leather tack that we have hanging in the stables takes on a strong musty odor but it's mostly treated with saddle soap or oil. While I've never seen mold on leather,
I just wasn't sure about the mold growing on leather in a humidor. I just didn't want to take the chance.

I have had cigars in humidors for several years and the outer wrappers developed what we call a "bloom". It's a reaction between the oils (sap) in the wrapper leaves and the humidity. It wasn't harmful to the cigars, just visually not attractive.

Leather can absolutely grow mold ;)

Rick, I’ve been storing all my tips in a small cigar humidor for years; so far no problem. Cigars will keep for decades in a properly maintained humidor (approximately 70 degrees and 70% humidity). I still have some cigars from the late 80’s and early 90’s in great shape. The key is to maintain the proper storage condition. I only store tips in a separate humidor.

Good to know, Tom. Like I said, I just wasn't sure about keeping leather tips in the humidor. Now I know. I also kept cigars for many years in my humidors, humidity and temperature always maintained. Some brands would develop a bloom on the wrapper leaf, some not. I no longer smoke cigars and my humidors have become storage boxes. LOL.

Didn't say it couldn't. Said it was less likely than a cigar.

Rick, I wish we lived closer so I could share with you a really nice Cohiba Esplandido or Monte Christo #2 torpedo (the real ones) over a game of pool. Covid has pretty much killed recreational pool for me.
