I use Netscape 9, which is based on Firefox 2+, if you put your cursor on the table (at least in threads it is this way) and right click, you will see options to view as Firefox or view as IE, change it to the other.
When I updated Shockwave, I have no trouble viewing it in Netscape 9. Perhaps you need to get Netscape 9, it is a free download, and basically is the same as Firefox except it has better organization of the screen, and it is faster than IE.
