Betting in Ohio

Having owned a couple of bars and poolrooms in Ohio, I did some research on this a long time ago. Tournaments are legal, they are a contest of skill, same goes for 2 people matching up and betting on themselves, where it gets sticky is Calcuttas are illegal and betting on other players or even staking another player is technically illegal.

I checked on this

You are correct, as far as all I had found out.

A long time ago, I checked on this too. Someone was arguing with me about paying prize in a tourney. You are correct, as far as everything I found out. Of course, I am in Indiana. But, the term "gambling", relates to betting on something you have no control over. Like staking a player, calcutta's, and such. So, if you have a stake horse, don't let them pay off for you when you match up with someone.

I was also told, it's legal to have a poker game, in a private place, as long as there is NO RAKE for the house. but that was a long time ago
