Check out this video of a money match between Biado and Alcano played in the Phillipines. Some great playing and watch the "Team" of rackers between games. Plus all of the balls being pulled as they are made. What would Earl do? Anyway, got curious about the exchange rate since the title says (P33,000 money game) Based on todays rate that would only be about $745. Good watch though.

745 in the Philipnes is probably two months salary for a middle class person there. I remember one of the older TAR matches where a commentator was saying how you can live there for a year in good style for $12,000.

I'd guess it would be like a $5,000 set in the US if not more.

$1,000 = 44,354 Philippine Pesos

Just for a good comparison, the minimum wage for the Philippines is $1 per day in the non-plantation agricultural sector for the countryside. When working in the national capital, the minimum wage increases to about $2 per day. Unfortunately, when these minimum wages per day are quote for the non-agricultural sector, the agriculture wages are probably much lower and calculated based on the crop.

Back in 2012 the average annual income in the Philippines was about 600 U.S. dollars, not sure about now.

They just had on Facebook that Efren played Raga in a race to 31 10 Ball for 500K pesos this past week.

If this was played in the US everyone would have a beer in their hands. I only saw one or two people with a bottle, and then it looked like they were using straws....what is the drink of choice over there?

Your conversion rate may be correct but it's like comparing two people working at McDonalds playing for $750. It's not. In the Philippines the guys betting are extremely wealthy Filipinos equivalent to way over the average salary in the U.S. The pool player doesn't lose any money. He does get a percentage if he wins. The location was obviously held in a place where drinks and food was not being served or a place where anyone on the street can enter and watch. Official billiard gambling is against the law in the Philippines so it couldn't be a televised or well advertised event.

Earl would take it to them! Plain and simple.

What do think Earl is scared of couple roosters, a moped and flip flops?

As usual bring up Earl, the only WPA World Nine-ball Champion ever to win the event in consecutive years. He is a purist. If the table has buckets, he'll let you know the table is to easy, if you clap for straight in shots he'll let you know why are clapping for that shot and when it comes to obnoxious Mosconi Cup crowds he sticks his head out and says come on.

Those guys over there are great and Efren is the man. I would rather watch them play in NY but having the crowd that close adds an element of excitement.

Oh yeah with Earl playing his Minnesota Fats shenanigans trying to disrupt the match the quiet Efren still beat Earl for $100,000 in Hong Kong in 1996 in a race to 120.... This is when Earl was at his prime at 35 years old.

There is no doubt that Efren is a total different monster and in my oppinion the best ever.

Efren is an icon, his sportmanship and character at the table is the top notch and a standard that is obvious that some just can't hold themselve to.

I wish I saw the match where Efren beat him for 100k.

If Efren was playing an unmentionable, who picked at the cloth inbetween shots, maybe they would still be playing.

If it was American pros, it would still be equivalent to or slightly less than McD workers :)
