Bid Padding?

One person has several (5)Helmstetter cues on ebay, I was going to bid on one of them. But lo and behold, with about 4 hours to go, one person bids above everyone else on four out five of the cues.I guess the prices weren't quite high enough.

Do you think this is just one guy who REALLY likes Helmstetters or "bid padding"?

he also bid on the 5th cue, but was outbid. and that is the highest cue of the 5. he has bid recently on these 5 cues and two coins.

Prices seem pretty cheap!?

I don't know the bidder....he might just like Helmstetter cues -- prices seem pretty cheap to me :confused:
 
really looks like padding to me, lol come on same guy bidding on all 5 sticks lol.
 
all those prices do look really cheap.. i used to have a helmstetter like those , points and joint was the same.. but the butt sleeve was different and it was like a 600 cue back then.. retail was higher.. i loved that cue.. i wish i still had it..

200+ positive f/b, 100% positive. But non of the recent f/b have been for any sales Helmstetter cues. One way to find out is bid what you would pay for the cue, and see what happens. If your outbid, you really did'nt want the cue at that price anyway. Correct?

I have seen something like this happen to me. I was bidding on a cue and for about and hour before it went off i kept getting out bid. So finally i let it just go and the next day i got a 2nd chance thru ebay to buy it. i think the seller was having a friend bid it up for him. I told him i was no longer interested since this person kept over bidding me and i was convinced he was behind it........also sent a note to ebay about it. Got another email from him and he wanted to lower the price by half if i wanted it....so the cue went from 300.00 down to 150.00.. and the cue was a 4 point joss..i took it.......mike
 
The ones that sold tonight still sold for less than you can find them at other sites.

I understand a little if that was what was happening. The buyer still got a good deal but when you put things on ebay with no reserve, that's the chance you are supposed to be taking.
 
i dunno.. to me it still seems like that leadscrew1 guy with the 700+ feedback was still shilling..

whats weird was the doinitwithdolin guy bid on every cue except the one that the leadscrew1 guy was winning.. seems to me that if somebody outbid leadscrew that dolin guy would bid then.. seems to convienent to be somebody trying to buy them all..

That guy won 2 of them and lost 3. I think he is a dealer that knows he can get rid of them locally for a higher price. The man just knows his margins on cues he can move... He won 2 and lost out on 3...

If hes paddig he wouldnt have won the auctions he would have to pay fees...

If the fees are less than the seller would have lost due to a low bid winner, then it's better to eat the fees.
 
yeah..jeff is right.. all 5 bux of the fees for each cue...

like i said.. it seemed the dolin guy would bid only after the leadscrew guy got outbid.. wait till the last two end and see if the same thing happens..

i am willing to bet that the dolin guy doesnt bid if nobody outbids leadscrew.. but you never know.. they could possibly be legit..

i cant see somebody with a 7hundred something feedback risk it on shill bidding.. but ppl get greedy i guess..

hmmm.. i was looking at what these two guys were bidding on.. seems the doinitwithdolan guy has bin a bidding spree.. so maybe they are both legit..

funny part is they probably are legit and it looks so wrong..

Well, these cues are permanently "marked" because of the links.

Down the road we'll see if those same cues are for sale again by the same seller.
