Big Beulah 2

does anyone have any personal feedback on the big beulah 2, im trying to decide if i want to purchase one or not, i have used the original big beulah and i liked everything besides the graphite shaft.

I tried one at SBE....my main issue is that the shaft was too whippy and lost a lot of power on the break. The taper was a long pro taper, nice for a playing cue, but not a break cue. It was nice they went with a wood shaft, instead of that ugly painted one they had before. Other than the shaft taper, the cue seemed of nice quality.

I have both Big Beulah's. I like both of them. The BB2 is much nicer with the wood shaft. I can break about the same with either. I had to shorten my bridge a little with the BB2 because of the longer taper, but I've improved my 9-ball breaking with it. It does take some time to get used to the smaller tip size compared to the BB1. The wrap on the BB2 is a better pattern and more tacky like than the BB1. Overall, I think the BB2 was a better choice for me.

I personally wasn't a big fan of the original painted wood shaft either. I don't like the thinner 12.75mm shaft that comes standard on the new Big Beulah II but it does come with a free upgrade option which is 13.75mm (which is what I break with) and I like it much better and I find it breaks better but It's all personal preference. It sounds like you will like the thicker taper. Man, It breaks a ton and I haven't found another break cue that hits as hard. Good luck with whatever you end up.

I was one of the fortunate ones to win the cue on face book before it hit the market. I really like it, best break cue I've used so far and it has a very solid hit compared to the other cues I've tried with the phenolic ferrule/tip featured on similar break cues.

the main thing that bothered me with the original bb is the shaft stuck to my hand like a titanium stick from wal-mart. everything else felt great to me. i play with a LH cue and love the laminated shaft on it and the feel of the cue. does the bb2 have that sticky feel or is it more like the playing cue feel

Good point Wes, although the upgrade to 13.75 isn't free it costs a few bucks.

Hi Mike,

I think there might be a misunderstanding. The only up charge for upgrading shafts are on the playing shafts. That's if you go from a Zero Flex 12.75mm down to a Zero Flex Slim shaft 11.75mm. On the Big Beulah II, there's absolutely no difference in cost between either shaft. It's completely a personal preference. I prefer the fatter shaft and I truly think it's the better between the two, but that's my opinion. For instance Thorsten Hohmann likes the 12.75mm. I racked like a 100 racks while he tried both and it was tough for him to decide, but he ended up with the thinner taper.

Thank You,

That sticky feel is long gone now :) It is the actual shaft that is on the playing cue but it has breaking technology in the ferrule, tip and butt. If you like the shaft on the playing cue, you'll definitely like the feel of the break shaft. Let us know what you decide.

I love it, but am wondering about tip replacement.

I had the original BB and was very fond of it (the painted shaft didn't bother me, because I shoot with a glove), but it got stolen. Then I got the BB2, with the smaller 12.75 mm tip, and used that for about two years before that also got stolen. I now have the 13.75 mm BB2, and it is the best break cue I've ever had (my 7th that I can recall).

I am wondering whether the tip can safely be removed and replaced with a Tiger Icebreaker (it's a phenolic jacket around a hard leather core, and since it has a leather contact point, it's legal in the leagues that have banned phenolic tips).
