Well it looks like an era is about to end around here. The building that houses Pacific Ave. Billiards, the Rumley Building, has been sold to a developer who apparently will be renovating it into condos. While it is hard to argue with progress and redevelopment, it will be a sad day when the place closes. PAB was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, only closing for a few hours every New Years Eve while George closed out the year’s books. It is the favourite pool hall of the better players around here, and well respected by folks like Cliff Thorburn. PAB has hosted many tournaments over the years, giving us locals the opportunity to watch some of Canada’s better players like Edwin Montal and Erik Hjorleifson (sorry if I butchered those names). I’ve been playing singles leagues there for the last 6 years or so, and at the wind up party / tournament last week Darryl was saying that they (him and George ?) will be looking for a new location, so there is hope. I’ve got my fingers crossed that they find a suitable location downtown to reopen … the last time this happened, when they took Classic Billiards into the Rumley Building as PAB (many many moons ago), it worked out pretty well so hopefully they pull off another good move. I’ll post again if / when the hall reopens.

We went through the same thing here in Calgary when Great White Billiards closed down a few years back. I remember it happened so suddenly everybody was in a state of shock.
