I had a little time on Saturday afternoon and decided to pop down to Edison and check out Sandcastle Billiards.

While there, I visited with the Owner Ed Liddawi, one of newest members here known as Sandman.

Ed purchased Sandcastle billiards about a year and half ago and prides himself in having a "family" atmosphere.

They have 18 9ft Goldcrowns etc..
Simonis cloth on everything with pretty big pockets.

Sandman seems like a cool guy. One thing about NJ is No booze, No smoking, no byob in any pool halls!! How do they survive??

Lots of tournaments and activity there always!! Worth stopping by if you're in the area!!

I kinda like the idea of no booze, no smoking in pool halls! It definitely helps make it more family friendly that way! IMHO

Actually, poolrooms are allowed to serve alcohol in New Jersey so long as local ordinance permits it and they have a license to serve alcohol. Several other rooms throughout the state serve. I've gotten blitzed at Willow Billiards (Hoboken) and have had beers at Herbert's so I'm very certain it's okay.

You had to bring that up!! LOL

I went 2 and out! My first match was with the top pick in the auction.

Just by attrition I should make it to 5-6th in the Fast Eddies 9Ball Tour this weekend before having to play anyone that can make 2 balls!! :embarrassed2: Cause I usually draw the top guy first!! J/K

(Can only win chicken dinners)

ps. Allison Fisher was in the tournament (not the pro one, but she was easy on the eyes!)

What tournament was this? Was it a weekly thing or a regional tour stop?

Well Ray, Samantha Brown you are not. Although it does appear that you're making a run at Melinda for Ms Congenialty and the Texas Ambassador of Pool.LOL I've really enjoyed your submissions and you've set the bar. I took your lead and am meeting a local fellow AZ'er tonight at Shooters in Riverside, CA.

That's funny Royce!! LOL.

Just like doing business with people here, I recommend to read through someone's post and get a feel for who you're meeting.

Take some pictures!!

Thanks,

Ray

Thanks, guys! I'll have to find time to play a few.

FYI, I called: no tourney this Sat. due to a special event. Also, the room has a regional tour stop on 12/20, so again, no weekly event. I'm gonna try 12/13.

Thank You All!

I just wanted to thank you guys for taking the time to read about my room. I just read this thread from my day job (yes, a pool player that works full-time!!! LOL) and am very pleased to hear positive things about The Sandcastle. I am still in the process of building up the business so please bear with me as I stuggle with all the obsticles of a tight township zooning officer, hard economic times, an old stigma about pool rooms, local ordinances and so forth. I do want to rejuvinate the sport for its raw value and NOT the side attractions of alcohol and a kiddie club atmosphere (Friday and Saturday nights will always be there for the kids and tourists) but rather a good safe wholsome place for EVERYONE to enjoy the game itself. Besides, billiards stasrted out on the front lawn and then moved it's way into the castles of England and was FIRST known as a noble game for royalty and noblemen. Why have we allowed the fine tuned sport to become known as a game played only by degenerate pimps and hustlers? Golfers didn't allow that to occur to thier passion and I refuse to allow it to remain the stigma of pool & billiards. All noblemen and royalty are welcome to come on out and enjoy them selves at my 2nd home and take advantage of the rates that are 25% - 50% LESS than the average going hourly rates in the area! Don't pay more - PLAY more! Every man's home is his castle. Therefore the Sandman's home is The Sandcastle. You are all invited to become loyal subjects and be treated like royalty when you come to play! Thanks again. Please visit www.SandcastleBilliards.com

Check it out

This thread seems more relevant now with Sandcastle wanting to host the Accu-stats arena.

Bigtruck...I can echo your opinion of Sandman and Sandcastle Billiards. We had Day 1 of our road show pool school today. Eddie was the perfect host, and went over and above to make us feel welcome and comfortable. There is plenty of room around the tables (which play great, btw), and it's a nice place to teach! The students and I are looking forward to Day 2 and Day 3. We'll definitely be back to more pool schools here at Sandcastle!

On a separate note, Eddie showed me how he's planning to help Pat set up the Arena in his room. He has a perfect spot, and I sure hope Pat goes for it. I believe they're meeting sometime this week to make a decision!

Thanks again Sandman!
