Found this (again) while cleaning out a family estate. Was curious to it's origin (tournament(s)?), or if these were issued by the Billiard Congress of America.

Possibly was from the Great Lakes area (Detroit, Cleveland Buffalo or Pittsburgh), or possibly Los Angeles.

In 1951-2 the BCA was running very few tournaments. The first BCA US Open did not happen until 1966 (final: Crane/Balsis). I have not heard of Mr. Rummel.

I would guess that the BCA was sanctioning local events and providing trophies. The plaque seems to not mention any particular event or location.

Thank you for your reply. Shane over at the BCA referred me to this forum as the good resource, as this predates him.

That would be Ed "Skip" Rommel, To my understanding he was well known around mentioned areas especially in the 40's early 50's, not sure exactly when he returned to California.

Ed's playing history does not seem to have made it onto the internet. I did get a lot of hits on the tank general once I got the spelling right.

One source of info might be the "Bowlers Journal and Billiard Review", but I don't know who might have a collection from that period.

Thank you again. Ed ended up in the the Vegas area, I believe he was not active there, to my understanding he mostly hustled pool back in the day.

I briefly looked up those archives, most don't go back that far, I'll have to further investigate as time permits.

I never inherited Ed's pool skills (wish I had), I had more skill with darts myself (now if I could ever get my board back on the wall, let alone find space for it).
