Billiard Table

I am thinking of purchasing a heated 5x10 Gabriels table. I have a room 18.2x14. Would this be adequate space for the table?

ideally you should have a larger room but if you use a properly weighted 4 ft and 52 inch cue as needed you can still enjoy it. My guess is you could play 90 percent with normal size cue. Of course if you really get good then you would never be in trouble. Little cramped on foot space but billiard players are more upright. Just depends on how much you like billiards

The playing surface on the Gabriel 5x10 billiard table is 56 in. x 112 in. If your using a slightly shorter billiard cue (many pro's do) of 56 inches you have a calculation for your room of 112 in. plus 112 in. (56 in. cue times both ends) for a total of 224 inches or 18 feet 8 inches MINIMUM for the length of your room. For the width you add the 56 in. playing surface to the 56 in. cue length x 2 giving you a total of 168 inches or 14 feet exactly!!!

Therefore, your room is 6 inches to short to play without an obstruction on the length. Sorry

I'm installing 6 new Gabriel Imperator's in February at three locations on the east coast. If you're determined to get a heated carom table I may have 2, 9 ft Chevillotte 2 inch slate heated tables becoming available in March 09. PM me if your interested.

Good luck

I don't see how you can go by just dimensions without including backstroke for min requirements?

John, These were ABSOLUTE minimums. As far as the stroke allowance it is made up on most rail shots by the angle of elevation when shooting off the rail.

I thought I was clear in my recommendation that 4.5x9 was the appropriate choice for his room. I was trying to illustrate that his room is just "a bit shy" for a 10 footer.

Your suggestion for a shorter cue is also an option.

ok I see thanks, would like to see those gabriels put in. I haven't worked on those yet, what kind of levels do you use on those?

I'll grab some pictures and post them. The Gabriel tables are in a league with the Veerhoven as the finest in the world IMO.

As far as levels I use the starrett 98 (4 of them) 8-18 inch.

Our friend Dave tells me you have a phenomenal collection of levels in your shop! I'd love to check them out sometime.

I love it, would drive me crazy in the field...lol. I'll be in NYC to do 4 of the tables in the next month or so. they're not on the boat yet, some time this week hopefully.

Dave LOVES pool and pool tables and cues and pool players and mechanics and anything related to the above no matter how remote!

If possible it would be a treat for me to watch as I know you don't need my help. I like to snap lines on billiard cloth to keep it even, Dave liked that move when I showed it to him years ago. Do you staple or glue your cloth? Do you use anything between the seams or do these match up perfect? I wanna come down there and play with those things. I know who can give me a ride.

John, you are more than welcome to observe, help, or participate in any way you wish with these installs. I'll give you an update as soon as I get shipping notice.

I use both glue and staples on billiard tables, snapping lines is a great way to insure a proper even stretch of the cloth, a simple measurement with a series of lines also provides for this guideline.

I use bondo in the joints. The 2 inch slate with pins could probably get by without anything in the joints in many cases, I ALWAYS fill and finish my joints as a matter of habit.
