Billiards Etiquette

My advice to anyone who wants to play sanctioned tournaments. You better get used to carrying your own chalk and keep it with you. Not on the rail.

I played a Regional tourny years ago and witnessed the favored player loose the match when he could never find his chalk. His opponent kept putting it in his pocket or knocking it off the rail and across the the room when he wasn't looking. He was so worried about finding his chalk he forgot to play the game and got murdered.

What!

Welcome to Billy Yards fellows. Can't control stupid? You may just have to put up it. And when gambling and side action is involved it usually only gets worse.
Grow nerves of steel. Sometimes the distraction is very purpousful. After all crime doesn't pay!

Some 3 cush players prefer the removal of the chalk on the basis that it could interfere with the ball travel path "thought process" especially on the 5 or 6 rail shots.

In pocket billiard games most top players will move a piece of chalk adjacent a rail that is in the vicinity of a pending ball to be pocketed.

It all points to the same thing. Use your own chalk and simply take it with you when you leave the table.

Well it is nice to have the chalk with you, the reason I think they keep it off the rail is that the excess chalk gets on the cloth and causes the ball to play short as it dirties the rail and creates friction. Then it gets on the balls and causes more problems. The cleaner the table is the better it plays.
