BK2 Tip Question

So I have the original phenolic tip on my bk2 and I'm going to replace it with a samsara break tip. Do I take it down to the black fiber material or to the ferrule on the lathe? The obvious answer is to the ferrule....but isnt the fiber pad there to better adhere the tip, due to the material of the ferrule(phenolic?) not being able to accept glue well?

http://predatorcues.com/predator_cues_customer_service.php#warranty

"PHENOLIC TIP REPLACEMENT. If you want to replace your phenolic tip on your BK2 break cue or your Air jump cue, do not remove the black carbon fiber tip plate located under the brown phenolic tip; this will jeopardize the strength of your shaft and the warranty will be voided. Leave .020” of the brown phenolic before gluing on the replacement tip."

Don't know if this is "gospel" as I have had no experience or known anyone that has replaced the phenolic tip on a BK2. I just remember reading this & thought I would pass it along to you.

The pad has nothing to do with bonding the tip better.
It's there to protect the ferrule regardless of the tip you choose.

dont cut the pad off or you will void any warranty like my dumbself so i put a black phenolic pad on mine and a samsara and like it but went back to phenolic. it just depends on how you like it but if you cut the pad off you hit whater that stuff is that predator puts in their shafts hard foam
