BK3, blown up sir.

A month ago I had an A player bring me a Predator BK3 breaker wanting a Samsara tip. After A LOT of play, he miscued. The Samsara blew apart and the thin walled ferrule split next to the tip. There is now a crater in the end of the shaft exposing the thin walled carbon fiber sleeve lining the ferrule. The carbon fiber is just as thin as the ferrule.

I understand the low deflection, but in a breaker? If he sends it back for repair, what’s to say he won’t blow it out again? He really doesn’t care about warranty. We just want to make this thing strong enough that it doesn’t happen any time soon.

I’m tempted to build a capped ferrule for it. Or at least fill the crater with epoxy and add a carbon fiber pad to help protect the thin ferrule. I do not recall a pad under the phenolic tip I cut off in the first place.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Filled the crater with epoxy. Removed old ferrule leaving carbon fiber sleeve intact. Replaced with an uncapped XTC ferrule. Capped with a fiber carbon pad. New Samsara tip.
