Played in the singles regionals this weekend for Vegas and made it to the semifinals. Found out today I played as a 7 but my skill level dropped to a 6 before the event and if I'd played as a 6 I would have won the semifinal match...

I know it's my fault but it still blows...

Don't they keep up the skill levels during the tournament? I know our LO inputs everything as you go and your s/l can fluctuate and it is written on the scoresheet for each match.

Sucks. Nice going otherwise, though.

I don't want to say anything bad about the guy cause he was nice but I'm not sure he was up on all the rules. They were 'fixing' the singles boards throughout the event as well. One I played in they randomly drew every match and then switched the lone 7s to play each other first instead of 4s.

Was that just a qualifier board? If there aren't that many signed up, they will just group all of the different s/l people together. When possible, they'll separate it.. sometimes, they'll run boards for certain s/l groups. At the regional, the s/l's are put into their respective groups and then put into the bracked in their decimal rating order, ie - 7.1 at the top to 7.9 at the bottom, the same way it's done in Vegas.

As for the missing out.. I've got a couple of friends that have gotten runner-up. I got runner-up twice, once in 9b almost making a great comeback and once in 8b losing 2-5, I think, after being up 2-0. A friend of mine made it to the finals as a 4 or 5 and then his ego got the best of him and asked that he be moved up! :bash: He would've lost anyways, though.
