Blocked pockets - sinking the OB

Safety shots aside. These are a couple of common situations everybody runs into. what are the tricks you use to get the ball into the pocket?

Situation A) 1 ball frozen up against the 4. Theoretically you can hit the 1 dead on using backspin, the CB transfers spin to the 1 giving it topspin while the 4 is knocked out of the way and the 1 drifts into the pocket. That's the theory anyways, I've only made this shot a couple of times

Situation B) This one is a little easier. I'm sure everybody has made this shot at least once. What spin do you use to make it easier?

Situation C) This shot you transfer the backspin from the CB into topspin for the OB getting it to follow the 13 ball into the pocket. what if you're using CB A instead?

Shot A- Draw a line from the 1 to the pocket. Now draw a line through the 1-4 the same length. Cut the distance in half, and aim the 1 there with a lot of draw. Firm, but not too hard.

I think you're describing the "2 times fuller" shot, which is for when the CB is frozen to the OB. For shots where two OBs are frozen together you want the "10 times fuller" shot.

In this diagram I've moved the two balls out to the spot for clarity. Extend a line through their centers until you can take a right angle turn to reach the target. With the CB frozen to an OB, aim the CB at a point 1/2 way along that right angle line. With two frozen OBs, aim the first OB 1/10 of the way along the right angle line (this is a common one pocket shot).

Of course, with the second ball on the rail as shown in the original shot, you need enough angle for it to get out of the way as it rebounds.

In my experience the 2 times fuller shot (shooting the CB through the frozen combo) is much more consistent than the 10 times fuller shot. I don't know why - maybe because you can put just the right hit on the CB.

Here's an example I posted awhile ago in the straight pool forum:
--------------------------------------------------------------

In this cluster the frozen pairs 2-15 and 7-9 might be dead caroms for the upper and lower corner pockets, but they're both blocked by other balls.

Fortunately you see what others can't and make them both with a single shot, winning the trophy and the girl.

Look at the 2-15 pair to see what happens. The key is to recognize that you can make the 15 carom off the 3 and the 2 separately, one after the other, by shooting it toward one or the other. So if you shoot the 15 toward the 3 (away from the 2) it will carom first off the 3 and then off the 2 into the corner, moving the 3 out of the way in the process.

The same thing happens with the 9 off the 11-7 into the other corner.

The 8 ball needs to be farther from the 13 for this shot to even have a chance. That is, the 8 needs to pick up natural roll sufficient to have it follow the 13 in. From the position as set up, the 8 will have enough forward roll to stop ;)
