I have heard a few cuemakers make desparaging remarks about other cuemakers.
But, have yet to meet one who claims he makes the best cues around.
I disagree on one point. A guy does not have to play well to build a good cue. I present in my defense exihibit A:
Leo Fender created 2 of the most popular guitars in the world in his workshop. He was by no means a great player, however the guitars he produced were second to none.
Exhibit B:
Enzo Ferrari was no great shakes as a racing driver. He had a little success, but certainly was not world class. Yet he went on to produce some of the finest racing machinery in the world.
Note that I am not a cue builder. I have 10 thumbs when it comes to tools! I leave all my repair work to professionals who actually know what they are doing lol

but it is a good point...it doesn't really matter to me if the cue maker can play or not..i mean how many cuemakers out there have actually won "big" tournaments, Sigel?(i don't really know if he makes his own cue)but if he does then wouldn't everyone be buying cues from him. Different strokes for different folks, even though a cuemaker plays good that doesn't mean his cues would be for 'everyone' meaning everyone has their own preference in the hit of a cue.Raistlin said:

Collectors seem to could care less about the playing aspect of it. They buy art. Players on the other hand, play with cues that are playable, art.
