BrianK74 said:Maybe use a baking soda based toothpaste like "arm and hammer" since it is odourless. I just feel why drop money on a product you may use once a year or maybe never again when you have toothpaste right in your medicine cabinet?.
hondo said:May be a dumb question. I recently bought a cue
on ebay that I really like except for serious bluing
of the shaft. It's 5 years old. Is there anything that
can be done? My Meucci OLD1 is several years old
and has only slight bluing.
BrianK74 said:Hondo's question was about the ferrule only, so my post was related to that issue only. You don't need any fancy cleaner for the shaft, it's just a marketing ploy to take your money. Plain old water and a cotton cloth work just fine. The most important thing, if you just ate greasy pizza or chicken wings, wash your hands thoroughly and your shaft will stay clean.
I just don't fall prey to the consumerism of the billiard world, save your money for table time. It's just a gimmick that will pass like chalkless cuetips.

lukeinva said:Yes you are correct if you use a damp paper towel cotten cloth whatever every single time you play them your shaft will stay clean however if you do not then what your going to need to do is get some actual shaft cleaner. Its only 8 bucks use 400 grit very very lightly to open the pores take some cleaner and that will get out most of the chalk probably about 90% after that take some 1000 up to 2000 grit paper sand and then burnish with leather and then apply some wax if you like. There are alot of consumer ploys in the billiards industy unfortunately the cleaners from chris hightower and unique do not fall into that catagory. Now if you just get that Q clean stuff then you wouldnt actually be cleaning the shaft because that contains bleach so all your doing is bleaching the blue not taking it out of the shaft!!
You dont have a predator cue do you??
