It's right at about .840 Black joint collar. I think .840 has become the industry standard these days. The shaft plays incredibly well and is one of the Kielwood segmented shafts. I built a very low deflection shaft for myself so I have no need for the Kielwood shaft. At some point after a few more tests and upgrades I'll share what I've been working on.

I'm in Philadelphia, PA. As a sidebar, the shaft currently has a 3/8-14 wood thread in it. If you want a specific pin insert put in it's place I can certainly do that for you. I have a handful of inserts in my shop at the moment but I'll have to inventory them to see what I have floating around.

If someone wanted to use this shaft on a flat faced 3/8x10 pin in a butt, since this shaft
is cored for a 3/8x14 pin, does it still work, i.e., is the spacing on the threads different?

The threads would need to be converted. Old threads bored out, then replaced with an insert or plugged and then re-bored and tapped.
I've built a bunch of shafts from Bob's radially laminated roasted maple blanks. They are in my opinion, superior to non laminated because they are less prone to breaking.

Hello. The shaft world have to be plugged and then retapped for 3/8-10 The pitches of the two threads are rather different. And I would recommend you take it to a local cue maker along with the butt you intend to use because there are several different 3/8-10 pounds of there these days. For a machinist it's a relatively simple modification.

Thanks for the reply……I figured there’d be alteration because of the difference in pin threads and there’s isn’t any brass receiver that could be changed like with a piloted joint. The cost of alteration is more than the price of the shaft and the length of time involved negates consideration when getting the correctly fitted Kielwood shaft is faster and easier. Thanks again.

Add the fact that Cuetec not a true 3/8 14.. the diameter is smaller .365...compared to .425

Well, I'm willing to plug the hole for free and leave a perfect center for whoever you take it to to drill and tap.

Thanks for the offer but altering a cue shaft has very little appeal when you can just buy a new shaft for the same price
after including the shipping costs to your cue maker. If cue butt had to be returned, then the insurance alone would
add $ 60-70 to the shipping costs for the shaft, plus the cue maker’s charge on top of that. Altering the shaft has
little appeal due to the delay involved getting the shaft revised and winds up costing more than a brand new shaft.

Ok, I'm in Jim Thorpe. If I have time to take a ride down there I'll shoot you a text. Possibly next week if you still have it. Bob makes a great shaft.

Those shafts are $400 new ...shaft plug and tapped for 3/8 10 would be $50 tops and literally takes a hr or so lol And a brass receiver would be worse since you would have to heat it up to pull the insert out then plug it.

This is a for FS thread and none of this chatter, and exchange of “opinions”
is helping the original poster sell this shaft. Anyone wanting to chat, myself
included, should use PM instead of distracting from any seller’s FS thread.
Fortunately the seller has posted that the shaft has been sold…..Congrats.
