Just thought I'd start a thread on Frey, as a lot of his SP's are made available on the board. Does anyone have any experience with his more fancy cues?
I have a pretty standard ebony SP, with 2 shafts one with a sniper tip, the other with the triangle tip. I haven't hit with the shaft with triangle tip. I really like the balance of the cue. It seems to be pretty well balanced, from the shaft to butt - the weight isn't too much in the rear as some would think with a dense wood like ebony in the butt. The shaft hits really nice, and I love the feel of the hit. I like the wood to wood joint. Have no problems with the shaft loosening up during play - I did when I first bought it, but I was coming from using steal jointed cues with the insert in shaft, and I was simply not tightening the shaft hard enough as I it took me awhile to become comfortable with the wooden threads. The shaft isn't as stiff as the shaft on my Jacoby, but I wouldn't call it whippy either.
In anycase, it is my main playing cue. I haven't hit with a cue that I really like the hit of more. Sure, there are fancier looking cues out there(tho the ebony used in my cue is just beautiful) I don't get too much into a lot of decoration. I just want a cue that shoot wells, and has an excellent hit and good balance. The cue gets a thumbs up in all these areas. i'd recommend them to anyone that wants an awesome players cue, without dropping an arm and a leg. In addition, JP(cuesnthings.com) is good person to buy cues from. If there's any problem, he'll take care of it - and he's good about staying in touch to provide info. on the cue being shipped etc. nor does he mind when a customer calls with questions. Excellent cue, Excellent customer service... what else can a customer hope for?
