I've heard great things about Mr. Owen making a wonderful cue with great feel to the hit.
People talk about the hit and feel of a cue all the time. I hear and read that you can tell the
difference in cues, or that you can't tell the difference in cues.

Blah....blah....blah........Well, of course you can and then you have to figure out why when
you like one cue over another.......lots of variables are involved. The type of tip, ferrule, shaft
weight & taper, shaft diameter, cue joint, balance point, cue weight, type of wood.....there are
so many factors.....but you can tell the difference in the hit and feel of a cue, or at least I can.

This cue hits better than most and equal to the best.....at least the cues I've tried and now own.

Ill back that up. He makes a great cue and shaft. I had him taper a shaft for me and i was impressed with how much better it played. His prices are very reasonable compared to others also. Youd pay alot more somewhere else for a cue that wasnt any better than his. Nice guy in person also.

Okay....you've seen my Owen Player....really sweet hitting cue.
I just got word the fancy one Bob's been making is now done.
This is going to be one heck of a cue. Uh...or I sure hope it is.

Matt B.

Matt, I hope it is everything you wanted. I know how excited you are, I'd be the just the same and now you have me wanting a Owen. I almost bid on that player you got, I think. Tom

Tom,

I picked the '07 player butt up on ebay a couple of months ago. It was damaged and I checked with with Bob about repairing the cue before I bid & won the auction.
I knew he could replace the ebony butt but I wanted to change the joint from piloted steel to flat ivory and the cue needed two new shafts made.

The seller happened to live in Wichita which was like an omen of sorts since that's where Shurtz Cues is also located. The seller hand delivered the cue to Bob
and he gave me a repair price and that's how I got my first Owen cue 3-4 weeks ago. Bob worked the repair into his schedule as a favor and it probably slowed my
other cue's completion a bit but I was pleased to get the '07 Owen.

I gotta admit I'm dying inside with curiosity to see the damn thing and play with it. Bob was able to get my specs dialed in really tight so based upon how my other
cue plays, this new one should feel even better or so I'm assuming. I realize I won't play a tinkers damn better than I do with my other cues but regardless, it's exciting to get it.

Yeah, I almost bid on Ebay on that one that needed some repairs. I'm glad I didn't bid you up.

Heck yeah....that would have been ironic......and you sold me the Kamui tips for both cues.
All the cues I collect are for personal play and so I don't acquire a cue with the intention of resale.

But I'll tell you what. After my other cue gets here, if you wanted my '07 Owen cue, I'd turn it over
to you for my exact cost plus a dollar. Making a profit on a cue sale isn't important to me in the least
since over the past few years, I rarely sell one.

You probably recall what I paid for the cue butt on ebay and I'd just add a dollar to Bob's repair bill.
Anyway, my eyes are on the horizon awaiting the other cue. And besides, I really like the '07 cue
otherwise I wouldn't have got it or spent the money to change the cue joint to flat ivory.

Matt B.

p.s. The above mentioned offer does not apply to any others so please do not infer or presume such.

p.p.s. The veneers on my '07 Bob Owen cue are black, natural, purple heart & natural.

Everytime I see threads on AZ about blindfolding players and them not being
able to tell the difference in cues is really ill logic.

I see it like this, players can tell the difference in cues by shots they can
or cannot execute. By taking there eyesight away to prove there point
is flawed.

Its like taking a BigMac a Whopper and a Wendy's burger and telling people
to numb there tastebuds and plug there nose and take a bite of each.
Most wouldn't be able to detect any difference because your cutting
off there essential senses to determine a difference, but doesn't mean
they all taste the same cause they don't. Maybe gut rot and heartburn maybe
the same but that's about it.
Cues do make a difference, enjoy yours:)

Scsuxci........not true.....you missed the base on your slide.......of course you can tell......a Paul Mottey piloted ivory cue joint plays different from most other cue-makers.
I can't say every cue-maker because I haven't tried every cue-maker's piloted ivory cue joint. But out of the many I've tried over the years, none were even comparable
with Paul Mottey's piloted ivory joint design. And some cue-makers' flat ivory joints make a world of difference in the hit & feel....it has nothing to do with pocketing difficult shots.

I have not acquired my ivory joint cues on just some whim or hunch........for me, it's a distinctly different and preferable feel with the cue's hit.....maybe not you & some others
can distinguish the difference but that doesn't alter the truth or my opinion that a big pin flat vory joint is the best cue joint made.

I was agreeing with you. I believe you can tell a difference and different
joints, pins, forearm wood etc plays a big part of the overall performance.

I was disagreeing in other threads that state, people cant tell the difference
if there blindfolded, which I think is a unfair trial and error.

I have to say my oops upon the re-read of your post.

What's amazing is that no matter how you slice, it always a subjective call.
To the very best of my knowledge, there is no arbitrary standard to even compare.

It's like comedy....you or I might not laugh at a joke others found to be very funny.
So it's the same with cue joints.......totally a matter of opinion and preference.

2007 Bob Owen Cue Is Now AvailabLe For Trade

Yup...you read the title correctly......my newly refinished Bob Owen cue with three (3) shafts is available for trade.

How Come? Why so soon?

Great questions........Well, because the one that arrived last Friday (5/23) plays so damn great....it's the best hitting cue I now own......this '07 will not see any more play.

So I'd rather trade it for a cue from a different cue-maker for variety's sake of my small collection.

My new thread was started this morning in the Wanted/For Sale Section.

Just some feedback for any Azer thinking of ordering a cue........make sure you consider Bob Owen very closely..........the custom cue Bob made for me is the best hitting cue I own at the present........that says a mouthful........it's the reason Bob is making me another cue right now and it promises to become the cornerstone cue in my collection.......the last one Bob made me is my best hitting cue and wait til you see the design of the next cue.....you will absolutely fall in love with the design at first sight.........thank goodness for California's AB-96........it's going to keep me from going broke ordering any more custom cues.

Matt B.

p.s. Brandon W.........I spoke with Bob last week and he told me you had already contacted him.......you will not be disappointed..........and remember to practice the mother drills.
