I just put this up in another thread but I figured it would be more beneficial for everyone if I simply started a new thread about this. I recommend that everybody read the book "The Magician's Way" by William Whitecloud.

It's a metaphysical book about tapping into "magic," not like Houdini magic either but more comparable to a higher energy source. I read it because I'm a psychology major and I'm an aspiring life coach (training as a life coach actually) and it was recommended to me by a mentor of mine.

Within the first 2 chapters the main character lays out his struggles and then has a golf lesson that revolutionizes his life. It goes deeper to talk about your natural ability to do something vs. the perception that you need to muscle your way into doing something.

Anyway, check the book out and give it a read. If you suffer from anxiety or stress in gambling situations, tournament situations, or league matches then this book is for you. I have a hard time in league matches and tournament play because I've got a fear of embarrassment and a few other things feeding into me playing sub-par in my matches but I'm working on it. I'm actually not going to play any league or tournaments until I get my mental game under control.

Interesting read. I understand where the author is going with the analogy between golf and life. It works the same way with goals. Focusing on the end result can be powerful. Throw a baseball don't aim it. But, what happens if I don't have a lot of natural ability concerning a specific endeavor?

I think optimal performance is a bit more complex than just look at the end result without the metal baggage of procedure. The author does follow advice from sports psychologists concerning irrational fear. Focus on the target and not the "noise" and your success will be greater.

Thanks for the link, it's a piece to the puzzle.

Thanks for the recommendation. Tried to rep you but was not allowed to as I have not spread enough green to others. Steve

Over the past few days I've received a lot of PMs thanking me for posting this book recommendation and a few have asked for other books along the lines of this on:

-The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (http://www.shipk12.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Paulo_Coelho_-_The_Alchemist.pdf)

-The Magician's Way by William Whitecloud

-The Last Shaman by William Whitecloud

-The Kybalion by Three Initiates (This book is on metaphysical philosophy based on teachings by Hermes Trismegistus)

-The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint

Jacob the Banker by Noah Benshea

I've got more on my list if people still want more.
