Books of poolshots

I'm looking for a pool book(s) which teaches me how to shoot the most common shots for position . Ex. in the illustration there's a shot which always gave me a lot of trouble when it came in play (especially balls 8 & 9). Scott Simonetti taught me how to shoot it this way, and from that day I've made it most of the time. For 2 years I've playing it wrong because I didn't know the shot.

Right know I'm jobless and don't have a penny in my pocket to take lessons. A friend allows me to play in his poolroom, so I want to start practicing and need a book like this. If you know about one please reply to this ad.

That shot gives me trouble when I put top English. I usually over cut it, but i adjusted and found i was hitting too high on the ball. if the object ball is far from the rail like in the picture its kinda tough to get back down table using bottom since there is space between the object ball and the rail. gotta hit that shot good and make sure you get back down table

just my 2cents

Byrne's complete book of pool shots is one of the best. It shows shots and diagrams as you ask. I beleve it has 350 of the most common shots.

I'll second the recommendation of Byrne's book. It's "Byrne's Complete Book of Pool Shots: 350 Moves Every Player Should Know" and you can get it delivered from Amazon for $12 total. His "Standard Book of Pool and Billiards" is good for basic position concepts.

But for your example, you should be able to play the shot all three ways you have drawn. Some times only one of those ways will work to get where you're going, and you have to be prepared.

If your friend has a carom (pocketless) table in his pool room, spend some time on it and you will quickly learn how to move the cue ball.

99 Critical Shots... great book... but I believe the 350 book mentioned above also contains the 99. Had them both at one point.

If that's a Valley table you could hit it with just about any English and get shape. If you're on a 9 footer, I'd hit it with high running English.

Thanks to all. If the master Jewett says Byrne, Byrne will be...
