Boriz Cue Questions

Before I begin... Please don't crap all over me for purchasing these. I know the stories, I've seen the other thread about them and I realize they are foreign but the price I paid is still worth it. I am looking for opinions from people that have come into contact with any of these cues or perhaps have one currently or even those who have hit a few times with them before. I understand that when you get a foreign cue its more or less a 50/50 shot its going to turn out well or turn out like crap.

I know that alot of the time, you can see flaws in the work that is done with the inlays and whatnot and also that most of the time, they do not build these cues in climate controlled areas so if you are in a dry locaton, you may get a warped shaft. But if the butt is warped I can always replace it with a 314-2 or something.

Anyway... Here is what I am looking to find out. Has anyone here ordered and used one recently? From what I have been told, they have been around for a few years so if you have an earlier model it may have been crappy and the quality may have gotten better since then.

If you have bought or used one, how did it look as far as the clear coat, the wrap and was the joint pin straight? How did it feel when you hit with it? Would you compare the way it hits to any other type of cue brand?

Any info that you can provide would be helpful. For the prices that I paid, I am not expecting it to hit like a dream and I don't even mind a few flaws because I know its to be expected but I am interested to know what people thought of them. I researched the replies when people asked on the internet before and generally the response is "its a cue made in the Phllippines so it must suck." And that is so far from the truth... There are plenty of wonderful hitting cues from the Philippines. Plus, I've already bought and paid for them so recommending I not get them is already out of the question.

Anyway... Thanks in advance for the feedback. Its much appreciated!

If you have ever seen the arrtisans work in third world countries, you'd know that the craftsmanship won't change much. The tools they use are primitive, at best.
The people (or person) who makes the Boriz cues don't have excellent machinery. They probably use hand drills and knives for the inlays.
I would bet they only have one lathe.

But, for the price, knowing how many hours have to go into a custom cue, they can't be beat.
Moreover, the Boriz cues are ALL one of a kind. No two are alike. That, by itself, makes it a worthwhile buy. You aren't buying a cue as much as you are buying a hand made creation.

Um...this has been pretty well covered by people with firsthand knowledge of the PI makers. The OP wants input from people with these cues.

Really?

Interesting perspective.

Do I need to post a picture of my Boris cue before I can add my input?

I think it would be appropriate to speak about it since that's what he asked for. He wants input about owner's experience with the cues. You spoke only in general about them and we already have a great deal of info on them from people very familiar with PI cues.

How is yours specifically?

You can feel free to post a pic if you like. I know I always dig cue pictures.

BTW, I have a few PI cues, but none of this brand.

I recently noticed one of our regulars playing with a new cue, his wife bought for him, and it was a Boriz. The cue was fine for about a week, then he brought it into the pro shop with a ferrule that had snapped off. It only had a dowel that was at the most a quarter of an inch long, with a very shallow hole in the ferrule. Upon further inspection of the cue, both the butt and the shaft had a significant warp. It was straight when he got the cue, and living on the coast with high humidity conditions, I thought the cue had a good chance of staying straight. But it only took a week for it to become firewood.

I got a Boriz cue too of about a year ago and well... I have some good and bad things to say about it. I bought one with a snake skin wrap.
The cue arrived... Inlays weren't perfect, but definately ok. The joint was and is still straight. The butt is after 1 year still straight. But the cue is resting
asside at the moment waiting for eventually to get a new wrap installed. The snake skin wrap was awful to the point that it was even painful.
The scales of the skin were sticking out a bit and falling off. A real mess.
I removed the wrap to discover that the wood under it was slightly damaged.. but well, if rewrapped, it can be easily fixed.
The shaft sucks, really sucks. It has a layer of varnish that's way to thick and sticky. So once removed... indeed, the shaft started to warp.
But I bougth the cue at 80$ and I still had some decent 5*16/18 shafts lying around the house. So the price is good and the warped shaft didn't affect me.
So all I can say is that when rewrapped, the cue is definately worth playing with.

I used to have one but it did warp. It shot good before it warp. I bought it for $50 . Now i have a schon cue and it makes the difference. Always remember you get what you pay for. American made is a lot better than Philippine made.
