Boston Area Help

Okay, I just called Boston Billiard Club here in Worcester about their private room.

$100/hr for 3 tables, 2 couches, few TV's, music (see "Meeting Area" here). Note, 4 tables shown on website, only 3 there now.

I tried to call the one in Boston but it was busy (I know the majority of us are closer to Boston). If we're talking 10+ people this would be a good setting and a reasonable price. The Worcester has Saturday night open.

This is just an idea, maybe we could get a head count for who's interested.

1. Me
2. ?
....

We could also go to Country Club USA where you can play on Saturdays from 10am to 6pm for $10 and grab a few tables. This would be better than BBC if you ask me.

Thoughts?

Worcester, or chelmsford is definately better for me. I will be gone from 11/26 to 12/2. I can make most other weekends

We're going to try a monthly One Pocket...

Dave Cunha at Country Club in Chelmsford apparently is getting back into hosting some tournaments -- including the New England A-B series yesterday. He has agreed to try a monthly One Pocket event there starting Saturday, Dec 3 at noon. $30 entry fee. Very simple handicap arrangement. You are classed the same way you normally are for any other tournament A-B-C-D, with a modest spot grid 8-8. 8-7, 9-7, 9-6 being the total spread of possible spots. The purpose of the spots is simply to encourage more players.

They had over 40 players in the A-B event yesterday; I did not stay to see who won, though. Great to see guys like Nicoloro and McGonacle still in the trenches. Tony Ruberto was there, too. He mentioned that one of MA's finest, Jarred Clowery, hasn't been shooting much lately -- that's a shame.

Good luck, it's a nice room. Sure wish he would pick up a Joss Tour stop again.

I watched quite a few of the matches in the Pechauer AB tourney last weekend. There was some very good pool played. I left before it ended but the kid who was in the hotseat shot LIGHTS OUT! He couldn't have been 28 and I was watching him practice making some of the most amazing cuts and long cross corner banks (~20 mph). He won the winners' side final in about 20 minutes.

I think I'm going to go up to CC USA on Saturday afternoon and play during the day. Anyone is welcome to come and spar a bit. It seems like getting an organized meeting together is just too much to ask.

Country Club

I will be at Country Club today from 1:30 - 6 shooting around. I am going to be alone so if anyone wants to come run some racks feel free. I will have on a red phillies hat.

One Pocket tournament in Chelmsford, MA tomorrow

I know I will be there, as well as maybe a couple others from NH will be at Country Club Billiards in Chelmsford to see if we can get a Monthly or every-other-month One Pocket event going. Tomorrow (Saturday, Dec 3) it is a noon start (or so ) $30 entry fee, and lightly handicapped (only four player levels, with the matches ranging only 8-8, 8-7, 9-7, 9-6). The handicap is mainly just to add a bit of boost for the weaker players to step up and get in.

1 pocket

I really wanted to try and attend this tourney. I have to work untill 3 pm though. I am still gonna try and run over there a litlle late and sweat some matches. I was researching some past tournies and noticed Country Club USA used to hold 1 pocket and 8 ball tournies back in 01 that braught in big time pros. I noticed alex and efren atop the list of pros. I wish the top pros still came out to CC USA. Does anyone have any idea why the joss tour doesnt have a CCUSA stop anymore?

Dave kinda stopped hosting tournaments for a while. Too bad, because it is a fantastic tournament room. Those events are a major commitment though, and he apparently turned his attention elsewhere. He did recently host a New England A/B stop with nearly 50 players, so hopefully that is a start of more regular events.

One Pocket is not as strong a game in the Boston area as it could be. Maybe if we can get something regular going it will draw a few more players out. There might be only a handful this first time, but if you are interested in 1-hole, definitely try to make an appearance. Hopefully this will turn into a regular thing.
