Hey az'ers,

Hoping some of you are in the Boston area (or Cambridge area) in Mass., and was soliciting advice for good instructors in the area.

I am an intermediate to advanced player (I would say), playing for 4 years.

But I still have issues with my stroke and position play, and/or running out pattern play (any books or websites you could point me to for pattern play?).

Any help is appreciated.

I am a student and therefore do not have a ton of disposable income to throw around, but that is the not the main concern now.

I really am just looking for any good instructors in the area.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi there,

Where do you shoot out of. I too have been playing for a little more than 4 years now, and live in the Medford area.

As for local instructors:

Bob LeBlanc poollessons.net 781-389-9659 tell him his old student Pete told you about him.

Also pm me if you want to meet up some time.

I heartedly recommend Bob as well. In addition to the lesson, unless time is a problem, he'll give you a spot and play for hours with you afterward and though he tries to restrain himself sometimes throws in a little free lesson during the play time. He has an excellent setup in his house so you don't wind up paying table time, just his rate which is reasonable though I no longer remember it.
Also Scott Lee is coming to the Boston area in March, it may well be worth investigating.

If you are so fortunate to run into "the Pool Guru" Marty Herman, you will be well rewarded. He knows more about the game then most of the so called pool "instructors" put together.

Try getting a one hour lesson from him and see if you don't come back for more. I wouldn't officially call him an instructor. He is more like a level above that designation.

And best of all, he knows how to communicate his knowledge in layman's terms, that even a caveman can understand. lol

I've heard that as well from more than one person, though I've never had the experience of a lesson from Marty myself.
I think he is out in the south western part of the metro area, Sharon or something. The inquirer might be able to get contact info for him from Renaissance Billiards in Quincy, he used to sometimes frequent there.

Additionally, Joe Tucker is in Rhode Island.
