i'm heading up to boston for a couple months and was wondering where some good pool halls are with friendly people that like to shoot around for fun - but are decent. I need to work on my stroke but and last time I played APA I was a 6/5 but I believe I've gone downhill from that.

i'm specifically in the cambridge/MIT area, if anyone is around here.

All the good ones are closed now. Boston Billiards a few blocks from Fenway is OK. You may find a game or 2, but have not been there in a while so all the regulars may have gone elsewhere. The bad thing with them is they are pretty pricey and watch out for your car if you park there, that part of town is one of the top car theft and break-in spots.

If you head up North a bit to Chelmsford, Country Club Billiards is a good spot. I think there are some new ones in the area as well but never been to them.

hang-the-9 is pretty much on the money. Country Club in Chelmsford is a great place to play, but it's pretty far from Cambridge. The only public place in Cambridge with 9fters is Flattop Johnny's in Kendall Square, but you'll probably be disappointed since it's more of a bar than a pool hall; the tables are crowded together and too close to the walls.

If you're affiliated with MIT, however, and have access to the buildings, there may still be a 9fter in the Pritchett grill (2nd floor of Walker Memorial). And there is an offhand chance that there may still be a Gold Crown in the biology building (building 56) in the graduate student lounge. One of the former grad students was a player; he bought and put a GC in the lounge (tight pockets; Simonis) so he could shoot between experiments. He was having trouble selling it by the time of his graduation so he may have left it there (or maybe the university bought it off of him).

When are you going to be around? The summer league session at Boston Billiards just started and I don't mind getting together to shoot.
