Bought an OB-1 today

So I bought an OB-1 today to see what all the fuss is about. I am going to have the same tips put on the OB-1 and 314-2 to give an honest and as true as possible test. The same butt will be used so the only difference is the shaft. It will obviously take some time playing with each to give a review of each and which one I like better but I will post the review at a later date. I should have the shaft by Friday or Saturday I am guessing. Stay tuned.

I haven't played with this shaft, but I hear one loses the ability to feel the hit with this shaft. I would like to hear some other opinions though.

Well I will do the best that I can to give a true and honest review of both shafts.

IMIO, It's not the feel of the hit you lose, it's the feel of the unwanted vibration you don't get and the sound that goes with it.

Cool! As a 314-2 user myself, I am very interested in what you have to say. Have a great holiday and hope to hear more soon! :D

I have always used a z or 314 shaft but there has been lots of talk about this OB-1 shaft so I thought why not give it a shot. It couldn't possibly hurt anything. He who stands still gets passed. :)

You know, I've been following the buzz for a while, and I've seen some things comparing the OB-1 to the 314, but I haven't seen anything directly comparing the OB-1 to the 314-2. To me the 314 and the 314-2 are completely different shafts. The only issue I have with the 314-2 compared to solid maple is the feel, but I am okay with it still.

To me it's sort of like when golf club irons went from solid blades to cavity backed irons. At first, the cavity backed clubs felt awful but have since come a long way. A pure hit with a forged blade iron is still second to none, but the overall performance of the cavity backed irons won that battle with me and most others a long time ago. I am hoping a similar developement with improvement in feel and performance can happen with pool cues, but we will just have to wait and see.

Ah, it's summer so I have golf on the brain! :D

Is it me or am I the only picky one enough that the non-traditional color of the ferrule on the OB1 would bother me to death while looking down on every shot.

I know I couldnt do it, especially on tough shots, anyone else?

Its not any different then getting used to the Pro Cup CB. You dont even notice it after playing for a while.

My 1st experience with this was when I was younger and bought a Meucci cue that had a black ferrule on it. I thought that it would bug me but it never did.

Ps. You shouldn't be lookin at your ferrule when playing. Especially on tough shots.

I just got the two snipers put on each shaft yesterday and will be playing with the two shafts this weekend and will try to write something up next week. So far I like the OB-1.

I like mine too, but I think you're getting a little carried away B.

Yeah, no need to write anything up about that there buddy. I just want to hear about how they play. What you do the rest of the time with them is your business.

Cool, experiment, even thought it is purely subjective! I do want to know what you find and your thoughts on them. I own a 314-1 shaft, and made the switchto the OB1. I absolutely love the OB1. I don't feel that thereis anything wrong with predators, I just prefer my Ob1.

I have this discussion all the time, being that I am only one of about three players who I personally know in my area who uses the OB1. I honestly think that both predator and OB1 make good on their claims of radial consistancy, reduced deflection, and superior performance. I just like the way the OB feels.

I tried the OB1 for less than ten minutes before knowing that I had to order one. A week later I had it on my cue, and haven't looked back.

Predator DOES rate better as far as being less deflection. But ALL cues have deflection. Some more than others. You need to adjust for any cue in this respect. It really comes down to feel.

Just my two cents

after playing with a 314 shaft for about a year I went back to the conventiional shaft and decided the predator wasn't for also tried the ob-1 thought shaft made to soft of a hit for me. Purely subjective and just my opinion.

Doesn't bother me at all. In fact the only person that notices it is your opponent!

I have now used both shafts each with a sniper tip for a bit now. I really like both of them. The only difference I really notice is the lack of sound when I shoot with the OB-1. I haven't had to make any adjustments as far as aiming different on shots or anything like that. I have found that they are really equal in terms of playability. I truly think the only difference in which one to purchase would be if you like to hear "that" sound when you shoot. The wooden ferrule does not bother me at all while shooting. While I am not shooting it bothers me a lot because all these people keep coming up and asking "what the hell is that"? lol :D I think maybe the more I play with them I might pick up on some little differences but as of now they are pretty much equal. My suggestion would be to try one out yourself. Hope this helps some of you and if it doesn't - I am sorry.

This is the kind of review I would expect to see. There might be some small differences, after all it is a different shaft. I feel reasonably sure I will never make that move. My shafts will do anything an OB 1 does and with as much consistency with me at the wheel.

Laminated Shafts

I prefer the OB-1 shaft over most other laminated shafts such as Predator. I recently purchased an Ariel Carmeli at a tournament in Las Vegas, the original shaft was at the sellers house so he sold me a Universal Smart shaft at a highly discounted price because I wanted to play with the cue. I did receive the Carmeli shaft which was brand new and dead straight, but I like the smart shaft also. I think the OB1 shafts are even better than the Universal Smart shaft. Both shafts are easy to get used to, and I like the idea of something different for an extra shaft. I am yet to find anyone that dosen't like the OB1. I am considering an OB1 cue just for the heck of it.

If anyone has an extra OB1 they want to get rid of I may be interested.

Thanks
Ted

A friend of mine had an ob-1 matched up with his capone. I haven't stroked a shot in a year and put some mad zip on the cb. Probably some zip i haven't ever had.
