Boxes/shipping labels...to keep or not to keep???

Hi all,

I have a question that I thought I'd post up...just to see what the general population thinks.

I'm the very proud owner of a cue made by one of the elite guys in the biz. Pic of said cue is in my avatar.

My question is this - Should I keep the shipping box and label that the cue was delivered in, for collection's sake?

I ask because it's a fairly well known fact that old Gus and Bushka cues are worth more when accompanied by their shipping tubes and stickers. My cue is a keeper, without a doubt...and I'm curious as to whether or not keeping the labeled box adds any real value to my cue? I'm not so concerned about now...but how about 20-30 years from now?

I welcome any and all thoughts. It will all go into the big blender.

Interesting question... Shipping materials are a lot less personal now than in the Bushka/Szam days, but in some cases the writing is still by hand & not computer generated. Did you get any kind of COA from Dennis? I've still got shipping boxes all over my pool room waiting to be discarded - maybe I'll reconsider with a spare few...

I would definitely keep it.
It's a nice touch if you ever decide to sell the cue, and when you send me
your Searing you've got the perfect shipping box.

These days I think people are keeping as much as they can related to their cues, especially the collectible or hard to find cues.
Who knew that the old Brunswick tubes would be sought after like they are today.

I even know a cue-maker looking for Wheat bucks...

You're right about that. Everything these days is done on a printer...with little to no hand writing involved. Up to this point, I've kept every single e-mail, PM, and scrap of material involved during the construction of my cue. I figured it couldn't hurt to hold onto it all...and I don't see any real reason to chuck them now (Unless it comes time for spring cleaning and they're taking up too much space in the closet).

I wanted to get other folks opinions about it, just to see if holding onto them makes sense...or if it's just more of a sentimental thing.

Back in the days of Gus and Bushka, those cues were strictly players-to be played with, traded, sold, broken etc. No one was collecting them-that is why they have value. When everybody is collecting things. i.e. Furbies, Franklin Mint, Hummel figurines, the prices always decline, even after years.

Having said that-I'd still save the label etc but dont expect to put your son through college on it.

I've scrapped all but 3 boxes, one from 2 years ago similar to yours... I'm thinking that it may be a "cool to have" thing 30 years from now, but who knows... it's not like it takes up a lot of room...

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I've got that stuff tucked away in the back of the closet...out of sight and in the back of my mind.

I just can't rightly figure if it will do anything, really, for the overall value of the cue. If it does...great. If not...great.

BTW Ross....my Tucker hasn't shown up yet. You got that tracking number for me??!! :grin::grin:

Also BTW - I got Scott's rough sketch schedule for VF. Hit me up with yours, so we can link up and I can show you how to REALLY play 1-pocket. Just so you know...I get to use all six. That's only fair, right?

Schedule is simple - where there is beer, you'll find me. No plans other than that. I won't get there until Friday night, leaving Sun afternoon. (tentatively).

From Searing I'd most certainly keep the shipping stuff, invoice, etc. He doesn't make that many cues, very well respected, highly sought after, and odds are brings up the value by a few thousand 30 years from now.
