The phenolic tip and ferrule are all one piece while the magic tip is installed on top of a short 1/4inch ferrule. The phenolic tip/ferrule combo to me looks like J&J attempt to replicate the sledgehammer break cue. They both break really well. Its just a matter of preference.

You are correct. For the money you cant go wrong with these jump/break cues.
