Quick question for all you guys that know a bunch about cues. Thank you in advance :)

There is a pawn shop I stop by every so often to check on pool cues and a few other items. I've bought several cues from them in the past, and have always stolen them because owner really doesn't know anything about pool sticks. Anyhow I stopped on today and bought an old MALI in pretty good condition for $20 bucks w/ case.

My question is this : I've owned maybe six MALIS over the years and all have had either a SS joint or that whitesh plastic. The one from today has a brass joint which I've never seen before on a MALI. Wondering if yall have seen a brass joint on a Mali before and if so how uncommon are they and can that help date?

Couple more things guys; no pics are available nor will they be, AND yes the MALI on buttcap is in green. Any input much appreciated, thanks again!

It's definitely an older one, nice find for $20.

If it is the translucent Delrin buttcap, PM me

Thanks! No, the buttcap is that whitesh plastic crap I had mentioned earlier in regards to the joint ( actually it is yellowing ) so id have to assume its that Derlin u mentioned. Last cue I bought from them was like 8 months ago and it was a decent little LD Lucasi that I picked up for $15 ( NO CASE THOUGH - WTF RIGHT? ).

Kinda funny, the other stick they had today was the same cue they had when I bought that Luc. Its A REALLY NICE VIPER CUE ! W/ MATCHING 1x1 hardcase. Funny part is I dont really know much about " Vipers " other than Im def not paying the price this guys is / has been stuck on - $80!

Are Vipers close to a Players or well below it; coming in slightly higher than the infamous Kmart cues . The Viper is actually a pretty cool looking butt that id buy for like $25 no problem just cause i like the design . Guy won't budge lol :)

He's charging $80 because it "looks cool"

Viper cues aren't anything great, another entry level brand with extremely varied quality.

1st cue

The first cue I ever purchased was in 1979 and was a Mali M1 with a brass joint and black nylon wrap. It was $60 with a case.......

This cue does actually have the black nylon wrap ( which is perfect to my surprise :) ). Its a blonde wood cue ( sorry not sure of type of wood although I really should know but whatever). Im just curious, Im not looking to flip - just some info for myself. I do collect cues, prob NOT for the reason most do but i very rarely ever sell a cue. I pick ones up that i either think are cool ( for a plethora of reasons ) or play " LIGHTS OUT OR ARE A MONSTER !!!!!! LOL ). I just do not have the knowledge possessed by so many others on here. But because of the reason that i stated above, it all usually works out well.

Sure, Mali used brass joints. Here are a couple examples. From my memory, about early 1980s.

Not a ton on the open market. It's probably worth $100 if the shaft is good.
