I'd like to hear from some cuemakers as to what the difference is between the brass and steel pin. Why would you use one vs the other?

Thanks

The only brass pin I use is the 3/8 x 11....I also use a stainless steel version...everything else is SS...the only difference is weight slightly...

One consideration is if you have a insert in the shaft (brass) you would want to use a stainless joint pin. You never want two like metals rubbing together they could weld themselves together. The other consideration would be weight and lastly cost...........Dave

First consideration is weight, next is does the pin look good with the cue "meaning" brass rings gets a brass pin most times. I know, what does that have to do with how it plays? not much but I notice things like that. Cocobolo w/phenolic rings looks good with a brass pin. Sterling silver rings get stainless pin. All of this means nothing if the cue gets G-10, then I have to decide Green or Black.

I have found that the hit of brass is softer than steel. If you like to feel the hit a little more , I go with brass. It does go with the looks of the cue also. You want an even flow with your designs. Like alaskin said , silver with silver , ect.
But I think if you want a real solid hit , steel is where that hit is no matter the pin size. But for more orf a feel when you stroke , brass is the answer.
Just my 2 cents , hope this helps.
