Break Cue queries

Control is more important to me than just smashing balls.
With a good controlled beak, and decent position on the one ball, well, then the challenge begins.
Have to connect the dots.
This is why I went CF with my breaker. It allowed me to notably back off on my swing and focus on contact. The increased energy transfer with CF is the real deal.

Wonder how many playing shafts SVB carried with him on the chance that he popped off his playing tip..? ...or how many shafts with varying tips he'd carry for how the balls were breaking that day..? Do you also do the same...?

During the USopen, Gorst was carrying two fully assembled breakers with different weight/tip.

I'll also break with my player, IF the break on that day requires light power and some CB movement.
I've had tips pop off just shooting for whatever reason too. In other news, I just ordered a carbon fiber break shaft, cuz, well....the company xmas bonus compelled me to. What the hell, right?

I'm one of those weird players that has never had a tip fly off. Top layer delaminate for sure, but never lost a tip
I've been playing since the late 90's, so I've seen and played a fair share of pool and have seen this and that throughout the years. I shot one ball one time just shooting, not breaking and the tip just flew right off the end of the cue and ended up on the floor somewhere. Oddest thing that ever happened is when I broke in bar table 8 ball in a tournament and the 10 ball (which was somewhere in the middle of the rack) just split into two pieces. I kept both halves for a few years and laughed about it...but it took up space so I ditched it eventually.

Oh yeah...not even a real hard break either.

I don't think you two are talking about the same thing.
I assume JL is referring to the Willard Tipping Machine -which you won't be carrying around in your bag.

Three cheers for the simple but trusty Willard Tip Tool.
A Willard and a Last 4 Ever Tip Tool is all I need to carry in my bag.
I'll second the value of the Last 4 Ever Tip Tool...those are the two tools I use as well.

My experimenting at home on my table turn up interesting results: By going 4oz. lighter my break speed increased by 2 mph and the ball spread was much better than with a 24oz. cue.

I have a Joss Thor Hammer, same weight as player. It is slightly larger tip diameter but that's just incidental. I don't have it because I think it somehow magically breaks better, I have it to avoid unnecessary tip smashing on my player. The Joss has a hard tip
