which is better to have your break shaft coated with the same finish as the butt or just leave it as the normal wood

I would never finish the entire shaft same as the butt.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I was just wondering if it would hurt the performance of the cue. I guess you think it is better to have a plain wood shaft with no coating. I have a break cue and it is coated with a lacquer on the shaft to keep it clean.

If you have finish on your shaft, it will get sticky and if you ever dent it, you cannot fix it without reshooting finish.

If you want to keep the shaft clean, keep your hands clean.
