can anyone shed some light on these? is it better to get one stick for each or a combo that will do both would be okay? i feel i am at a point with my game that i ned to explore getting a jump cue and or break cue and no nothing o them. brands and such any help with this would be nice? thank you ohioguy

cmon you telling me nobody has any info on this? i need some help guys?

I personally think that you are better off spending the extra for both a jump cue and a break cue. I've read where some people like the jump/break cues, but most seem to prefer one of each. There are many out there, I prefer the Lucasi as a jump...Many like the Bunjee. Predator Bk Cue or a Custom Bk Cue would probably be your best break stick. Not a pro...just an avid pool player....mike

Ohioguy, are you working on a budget? Because that will play a part into your selection as well.

I like one for each. I have a jocaby jump and it is the best i have ever seen. I have a tornado jump break and it does good for jumping also. When i play on the bar table i use the jocaby because the ball is heaver and when i play on the big table i use the other. I think the tornado is as good as anything out there and it is half the price.

no real budget but i am not wanting to get ridiculous either. my stick i shoot with is a meucci with a predator shaft with a total cost of around 600 for the butt and shaft so i would like to keep it in perspective if you know what i mean

also do break cues and jump cues have different tips on them? like harder? what are the tips on them made from leather?

You want the hardest water buffalo tip on a jump cue. The Talisman WB xhard would be the one to get. Not one made of pigskin.

I dont think there is anything wrong with a combo jump/break cue. This saves on cash as well as space in your case.I just bought a Sledgehammer which so far i found is a good buy.You can find one on ebay or maybe some online outlets for a decent price.Only drawback ive seen so far is that i havent been able to control my jumps as much as i had with my other tornado type jump/break cue with a short ferrule and flat tip.But i havent worked with the sledgehammer alot so maybe that will come in time.Remember which ever route you go, technique is a big key.

For tips i think the harder the better on both. Also lately phenolic tips have seen to be a major selling point.

be very carefull!!!! i say this because, the only reason why a person buys a break cue is to save their tip and ferruel on their playing cue. and to have a break cue that you "know" otherwise, a break cue is actually a regular cue!!!! as far as the specialty cues like the predater BK or the scorpion rings break cue or the Mali M-1 break cue they all are hype! next, a jump cue. a jump cue should be made longer than the typical jump cue. to get the proper loft, you need more stick, for more speed. thus, there is no great jump cue. so what is the verdict? stay away from jump shots and play kick shots, and as far as a break cue, get a cheap $75 cue that's 18 oz. i say 18 oz. cause anything lighter has no aim, control, anything heavier is too slow, no speed, no speed, equals no power. good luck! for the record i own a break and jump cue from Mali called the M-1. the break cue has wrap that goes all the way down to the butt cap, in my opinion bad idea, you get rope burn! it's 18 oz. that's good, but the jump part sucks, it's too short, so i can't get loft. i tried other brands, and they suck as well, once again, stay away from jump shots, unless they are set up perfectly easy, the execute with your playing cue. and as far as a break cue, purchase a Mali F-1 for $100 and get it in 18 oz.

I get the most explosive break using 16 or 17 ounce snooker cue made by Dufferin. Dynamite.

I have a Bunjee jump ($75) and it is fool proof. It is so easy to jump with I can't imagine any other one can be much better. The break cue I use is a low-end custom (Barry Cameron) sneaky pete style with a Sledgehammer phenolic tip. I think I am going back to a regular tip on my break cue now. I have more power and speed with the phenolic tip but, I seem to lose control of the cue ball more often. In 9-ball that will get you to the b-side in a hurry. As far as weight, the gentleman earlier in this thread is right. Too heavy and you have no cue ball speed and to light and you lose control. I would keep it between 18 to 19oz. If your playing cue has a hard tip on it like a Moori quick or something similar, and you do not have an ivory ferrule, it is ok to break with your playing cue. Having one cue for breaking and one for playing is a somewhat new idea. It never used to be that way. Good luck.

I had an Omen that I sold on Ebay. It did not outperform the Bunjee in either jumping or breaking. Unless they are different now that the one I had in May 03 I would say that proving it to be the best JB on the market would be difficult. The Omen was a nice cue and felt real good to play with though. I would play with an Omen any day but I would use the Bunjee for jumping and breaking.
