ok folks, what do you guys think of my latest idea? i have a cheaper sneaky pete, think it was made by murray? actually sort of has a good solid feel to it, but i dont use it much.

anyway, am thinking about having Chad Carter (Owensboro, KY) make me a break shaft to fit this cue. one of those shafts with, whats it called, a phenolic tip/ferrule?

dont figure i can go wrong here. might help my breaking woes, nothing else seems to have helped. did manage to get some chances off the break tonight and ran about 10 racks i believe.

good idea i just suggested the same thing to someone on another message board. me personally i would go with a hard leather tip though. ive never tried phenolic for breaking but i didnt like the feel of it on a jump cue.

If you like your sneakypete then you could just put a phenolic ferrule/tip combo on it and save $$$ on having the shaft made.

I just took a Action SP and did the same thing and get great breaks when playing on a 9ft.

But its personal preference too. And then if you like the phenolic tip i would say just splurge and get a custom j/b cue with a phenolic tip instead of just having a shaft made.

I've used a friends Mace j/b many of times and it breaks them very nice! And could easily be used as a playing cue too. and for the price they are very reasonable.
 
I seem to remember you posting in the past saying you tried a bunch of differnet break cues and finally said you were getting the best breaks you even got with a house cue.

Just buy a J&J Break/Jump (with quick release joints) from Chrisonline for $60 shipped. It will cost less in the long run, and you won't find a better deal. What you don't realize (I have a J&J, BTW, with a 2nd shaft too), is that the shaft of a J&J is 14mm, which is better for breaking and jumping that a 13mm or less. Plus, it has a conical taper. I have a shaft with the black 1/2" phenolic ferrule/tip (extra shaft) and one with white phenolic
1/2" ferrule/tip (original shaft).
