Break stick tip

Hi guys - long time lurker, just signed up so this is my first actual post. My current break stick is 24 oz. Cannon with a phenolic tip and is just too heavy. I was thinking of buying a BK2 but am hesitant to shell out that amount of money at this time. Then I thought of just getting the BK2 314-2 shaft with Uni-Loc joint which would fit onto my existing Lucasi butt and save some money that way. Is there any difference in playability between the BK2 butt and a regular Lucasi butt using the BK2 314-2 shaft with phenolic tip used just for breaking? Or can I save even more by just putting a phenolic tip or a White Diamond tip on one of my spare Lucasi shafts and just using that? TIA for any input.

You can't change/trim the weight bolt on the Lucasi butt? I would try that first.

The 24 oz. break stick I have now isn't a Lucasi. It's a Cannon and a fixed weight. That wasn't clear in my original post. I just edited it.

if u have the right tools nothing is a fixed weight... :o)

preds are great. do u have a jump cue? u may want to get a jump break if money is an option. there are alot of good people on here so just post a wtb(wanting to buy)break or jump/break cue in the wanted/for sale section and u can get a good deal.

to answer your question. the butt has a different balance point i think but its all personal preference and probably not much different. also depends on if u leave the weight bolt in it or not. i did not. studies have shown that a lighter cue produces a faster acceleration. but if u dont control that its not doing u any good. with that being said if your not a big dude that can handle your 24oz warhammer then your break may be handicapped by the weight of the cue itself. you need to get down to a 18-19oz cue with a hard tip to reduce the english applied to the cue ball when breaking. this will help you control the cueball and leave it in the center of the table more often due to no spin.(which should be your goal by the way) do some research on where the wing balls and 1 ball and back ball go after a break from the side to see where you should be looking for the 1 to go and which balls you are trying to pocket on the break other than slugging the hell out of it.

if u put a hard water buffalo tip, white diamond, or phenolic tip it will reduce the spin and help you control the ball. I have a radar gun and we clocked eachothers breaks and some of the breaks were up to 28mph but the slower more controlled and accurately hit breaks sunk more balls and left more shot opportunities. pros hit around 25mph. thats not saying that they cant hit any harder but thats what they can control. you should work your way up. there is a thing on youtube about breaking a 9 ball rack with segal i think that will show u what im talking about.

so yes...18-19oz with hard or phenolic tip..start off slow and work your way up..pros practice their break regularly so dont expect to slam the rack 25mph and stop it between the 2 side pockets everytime without practice. also look for a breakrak if you are serious about your break. will save alot of racking time so it will give u more time to practice your break. or your a worldbeater already and i just waisted a bunch of time :o)

also i have heard that a flatter tip (not flat) will help reduce spin. i dont know i am currently breaking with my playing cue and my break cues were.....bk, bk2,bk2. I have tried a j&j and it was a great jump break. didnt like it more than my bk's but for 70 bucks it take it over any other cue except for my teammates pete omen break cues (more than a bk2 and predator air)

Thanks for your input Chaz. I'm not a beginner by any means, a 6/7 in APA 8 ball and 7 in 9 ball but I just got used to using that Cannon break stick and I feel it's holding me back some. The Valley Forge Expo is just up the street from me in 2 weeks so I'll check around up there and see if I can get a good deal on something. I have a buddy who is using that new Tiger Icebreaker and likes it a lot.

Let me know if you need the Icebreaker tip and I will get you one.
You will love the control of the q ball and the way it holds chalk.

your exactly where im at....apa wise. just hard to get in enough matches to make it to that next level. what are u using for a playing cue right now? and fyi that icebreaker is as expensive as the bk2 and then some i think. let me know if u want a new bk2 i can get em cheaper than most people....

Chaz... I can also get the Icebreaker cheaper than most people as well :ok:

yeah i though u could but i didnt want to say that...im sure we are in the same boat so the offer goes for u also incase u need something from predator...they are just a few hours away and their customer service is great.

I still havent been able to use the xbreaker though so maybe when i do ill get one from ya if i like it. either cue is not going to be a dissapointment compared to the 24 oz with who knows what tip on it. they are both a great improvement and the xbreaker breaks down also for jumps. but id never get rid of my predator air. if u havent tried one of them then id reccomend that too.

With all honesty and this is not because I am Tiger reseller...
I had every single custom/production jb cue: Stinger, BK2, Mace, Andy Gilbert, Sledgehammer, etc and I just love the balance of the Icebreaker... It compares with the balance of the Gilbert and it is by a mile the best jump cue I ever had. I need to try the Steve Lomax that people brag about, that is all :)

im not offended...i dont make anything off of a predator sale. just a reccommendation. i was just throwing out my opinion of the cues that i have used. i also asked if he would prefer a j/b which rules out predator also. all i said is buy something within a certain oz and gave a couple tip options. i also said that i am breaking with my playing cue. if this was the for sale section and i tried to thrown in predators name on your thread then id understand. but its the main forum and i think my answer was as informative as anyone else would have been able to give. if anyone can improve upon it id love to hear it as well and maybe ill learn something from it. no hard feelings

oh ok, i though u were offended becasuse i kind of praised predator and offered my services like i was trying to steal your sale or something. no biggie.

Hey you guys have both been great helps. I'll let you know if I need anything from y'all. Thanks much!
