Break tip installation

Kim, I agree!! Here is a photo that was sent to me by a customer of a Predator that was used for breaking....View attachment 399142

I've seen that before. It happened to me and a a friend once. It's because a guy we had change the ferrules on our 314s used uncapped ferrules which you are DEFINITELY not suppose to do with predator shafts since the end is hollowed and tenon area filled with resin. I still use a 314 to play and break with but dave jones put on a masons Micarta capped ferrule and a carbon fiber tip pad, it's been playing and breaking just fine for years now and I can break around 30mph.

The predator BK series is designed for breaking, it has a sleeved linen melamine based ferrule, around a carbon fiber tube in the front end of the shaft. The CF tube is hollow, and flush with the top of the ferrule. Then a .100" or so carbon fiber pad is installed. Using the methods described by Kim and Bill, this would require drilling thru the CF pad and would then not only negate the warrantee, but I think a possibility to cause a failure of the ferrule/CF pad. Don't know for sure, but not willing to find out either. I do like Bill's method more, as he stated....the tip is the tip, not a tip with a phenolic center, no offense to Kim's method, just why buy a white diamond or other $$ break tip ... if the center of it will be phenolic anyways.
Using a regular Predator 314 series shaft for breaking, I would expect the same result as what Todd showed above.
