Not sure if I would call that short of a time "good" for a cue. I have a break cue that is about 20 years old and still looks like new. I put it down to poor construction.

Totally poor construction. I made a similar mistake on an early cue about twenty years ago. The pin stops about where the collar stops, creating two stress risers in the same area. Recipe for disaster.

A friend let me use his Huebler to play in a 9ball tournament . I was unaware of the trnmnt and just stopped by to see him. As I had no cues he offered up the plain jane Huebler. The first time I broke with it I had a experience similar to the op's. He was watching and exclaimed "oh my" which to me seemed almost as funny as him handing me another Huebler similar to the broken one.
This was a late night trnmnt at Rusty's Arlington. Later on that same night Hippie Dave broke against me and made 7 balls,1 thru 7, on the break and was dead hooked against the 9.

So I started breaking with a 25oz break cue since breaking this one. Since I was too lazy to go and grab the spare Viper butt sitting in the garage this morning. That thing blows up the rack! Made 5 balls on a 8 ball break with it. Still prefer a lighter one though. Swinging the 25 at my normal break speed really seems to mess up the table layout.

Oh the OP. Thats a Viper cue. They are probably all made like that for reference. The forearm to handle also isn’t constructed well.(it was already broke so I warned everybody it wasn’t because I was pissed it was getting broke before doing it)The Viking I fell on and broke there were alternating/varying splices where they meet. Making it strong from any direction. The viper has this on both pieces. As you can see it’s only strong on 2 sides and weak on the other two with this type construction.
