Breaking Cue Tip size question

Bit of a noobie question here...

I want to attempt to install a new tip on my own for a spare break shaft that I have lying around. It's an old J&J break cue with those fatter shafts (pic below).
Would I need to get a 15, 14, or 13 mm diamter tip for these? If it was 13.5 (which I think it is), would a 13 mm fit even if it's a thicker shaft? The smaller tip is probably not a good idea but just asking anyway just in case lol

Thank you!

Do you have a lathe? If so, install the new tip as you would on a play cue. If not, I would recommend having a qualified repairman with a lathe do the install. In any event, you need to get a tip bigger than the ferrule so that it can be cut down flush. Good luck with the new tip.

You would need a tip bigger than the shaft you're gonna use it on. So if the shaft is 13.5mm, a 14mm tip will work, granted you can center it nicely on the ferrule

No lathe. Just gonna attempt to do a manual install like following Dr. Dave's video. But it's looking more complicated with harder break tips so might just have someone do it for me lol

The really hard break tips are tricky even with a lathe. If the person doing it is not experienced and very precise, trimming them perfectly flush without taking ferrule material off will be difficult.
