Breaking News -- Jeremy Jones settles all aiming arguments!!!

this is coming down with applied english
when you use front hand english the butt stays "centered" as jeremy desribes it
should more players use front hand english or would it be easier to teach newbies english with front hand english?

Skill doesn't necessarily mean knowledge. Nothing against him personally, but he doesn't understand aiming with spin or how he actually does it.

Jeremy is 100% correct. Butt centered on the cue ball. No pivoting once down, etc. Plus, he won the US Open in 1 pkt and 9 ball.

@Hungarian

To stay on topic, Trump aims this way. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seriously though, this was pretty basic stuff. The main thing is starting with center ball and tweaking it the way that’s comfortable for you.

I think Jeremy is a good instructor for keeping things simple.

In this game skill trumps knowledge EVERY time. Lot of great players don't know the how's/why's of the game but have an innate feel for what it takes. Golf is the same way, they call it 'feel vs. real'. A lot of major champions in golf really don't that much about the details of the swing mechanics but they can go out and post a low score.

So you think every player, with any cue, on any spin shot, should use fronthand English? That’s what “butt centered on the cue ball” means.

Could you answer your own question please Patrick
Pros and cons of front hand English

Pros and cons of front hand English
Fronthand english means pivot at the back (grip) hand (moving only the front hand) to apply side spin. That only works well when the cue's squirt pivot point is at/near the back hand (very low squirt) - most cues have pivot points within a foot or so from the tip.

Even pivoting your cue at its pivot point only works exactly for relatively fast or close shots - for other shots a "fine tuning" adjustment must be made from there. In other words, one squirt adjustment doesn't fit all cues or even all shots with the same cue.

Well the way JJ explains it is easy to understand. Plus, he doesn’t pivot after he’s down on the ball. He drops into position as part of his normal PSR. I think that holds up in the long run and under pressure.

Yes - too bad it doesn’t work as described.

That’s called adjusting for squirt by feel. It works (after enough practice), but it’s not a “system”.

I'm curious what percentage of top players play by feel vs play by system? I remember Stevie Moore was CTE and a few others did this and that. Then there's CJ with TOI which I use and actually did before even knowing what I was doing. I believe systems and good to experiment with for learning but at the end of the day you have to hit balls without thinking about it.

I think everybody uses feel, even those who use a system to "get their bearings" (yes, including CTE and TOI). The part of Jeremy's aiming process that's a "system" is that he (supposedly) keeps the butt of his cue on the "shot line" - since that can't work for every shot (or even for many shots), he must be making subconscious adjustments as he gets down on the shot. Fact is, very few side spin shots work with the butt on the shot line.

Thanks Patrick. What do you think is the best system?
