I have a cue that I want to use as my break cue but the shaft is a bit too thin and flimsy. I was wondering if I should buy a predator 314 for it and use it to break. Does anyone know if these shafts are good to break with?
I originally bought a P-314 for my Heubler, which was my shooting cue for a loooong time, because I wanted to try something different (yet keep cue somewhat the same). I liked it, but I didn't quite get the same hit/feel that I would get from the original shaft (while trying various tips too). One thing I did notice though, was that on my power stroke I seemed to be a tad bit more consistant with the 314.
I happened to be at the right place at the right time and stumbled upon a rare Skruggs and started shooting with it. After about 2-3 months, I demoted my Heubler to a break cue and kept the 314 as the "breaking" shaft.
At this point I started to experiment with a goal in mind. I'd go to the pool halls and find someone willing to spend an hour just racking balls for me. I'd toss 'em a $20, and the only thing I'd do for an hour was break racks (8 and 9 mostly) usually once or twice a week.
The 314 shaft is 10 years old now. The ferrel is starting to show some stress lines. I use a Le Pro tip, I'm on my third one, cause that's what I have the most of in my stash.
It works for me, your milage may vary.
