I am looking for feedback on cues from Pinoy cue maker Brian Gonzales. He has a couple nice BEM cues on eBay. His seller id is gonzos427. Any info would be appreciated.

Never heard of him. If you want a inexpensive but well made Filipino cue I recommend Tony Bautista. Forum members DGEM and JOYREN represent him. Not to say that this guy isn't good, I'm just telling you who I KNOW is ! I spent a month in the Philippines last year and did some research on cuemakers there.

In general, the problem with cues from the Phils is unseasoned wood, particularly shaftwood. So it's not a bad idea to order a LD shaft from Predator, OB, or whomever you prefer. The cuemaker can get an unfinished shaft and add matching ringwork or whatever you like. I know Tony does this regularly.

Good luck...Tom

I went over to Ebay and had a look. Did you read that those cues are at least 22 oz ? They are 59.50" long too. The Filipinos do like longer cues, but you might not want that. Just be careful. You CAN get good cues from the Phils inexpensively, but there is a lot of junk too.

I know Tony Bautista has some new process that he is treating his LD shafts with. Dunno if it is that Resolute, but you should ask JOYREN...Tom

They are crazy heavy. The shafts are 4.5 oz. I emailed him and he said the cocobolo was very heavy, even after being cored.

Thanks for the feedback. I have some experience with cues from the Phillipines. I thought he may be a diamond in the rough like JD Cues.

Well I've taken on 5 of his cues and my heaviest one was 20.5 which I knew and wanted for some players liking a little heft. My other four are 19 and up. He's using the Audrick crew to create his line with his materials including shafts from Cue Components so everything should be stable for the long haul of ownership. I play a little straight pool "no chalking" to have a feel for the cue and how it plays and after a couple 20 ball runs (because I just have to try and move the ball with a little english- miscue- Doh!) I have pretty positive feedback. I'm going to have him use a little more finish on any future purchases as some of that wood sucks it in and leaves a minor pit on some of those burls. Easy enough, still sealed just a minor imperfection to a nicely hand made cue.

As long as it's not Audrick's materials :yikes:

I have a beautiful amboyna boomerang made by Audrick that I took a chance on and I have an orange-wood and snake-wood made by Steve Urate that is straight 3 years after coming into the states..... I'd want to hear directly from some prior purchasers before ordering anything over a few hundred....
