Bring your own billiard balls to pool hall

i guess why. you are just banging balls around practicing. if you are making a game and gambling no way do you let someone use their own balls or even cue ball.
i wont let someone use their own bridge.

and if you need your own set all the time what and how are you going to react to normal worn sets of balls next time you are gambling or in a tournament.
Why can’t your oppponent use his own bridge? He is allowed to use his own cue.
I’m pretty sure there isn’t any rule prohibiting using your own bridge or I’ve never
heard of it. And it really makes no sense. You should be allowed to just like chalk.

Well I guess you could practice with your own set, but then you would go from that to league play with the pool hall set. My Philosophy is I should practice with what I'm going to use in competition. I have a table at home and I have a complete set I use there and practice with all the time.
In a tournament, you never know which set of balls you are going to get.
And the balls can vary in weight by as much as 1/2 oz which screws up
the way it plays if the weights are all different or only the cue ball was.

At least by practicing with your own pool balls, you are assured of pool
ball consistency like the weight. Better to practice with a matched set
than with a set where the OB weights are different from one another, IMO.

I play in bars where you notice half the high balls have the number in the stripe and half have the number on the white and it’s hard to get a tight rack and you have to strategically pick where the odd balls go to get the balls to better freeze up. So in those scenarios I’d much rather bring my own full set of consistent balls. Alternatively I’ve been to pool halls with great balls and wouldn’t consider bringing my own because it would seem redundant. But in general if it wasn’t a regular and recurring problem, I’d favor not bringing them to save the hassle. That said, I bring my own Delta-13 rack often.

Kind of a shame you have to do this at a pool hall. I see teams at bars who bring their own balls for leagues or keep a set at the bar that’s just for them but I expect pool halls to have better equipment then bars so this is surprising . Not crapping on your place to play.. hell I wish we had a pool hall. They don’t exist in york anymore.

I think they make a hell of a difference in your enjoyment of play. Once a week my table gets a good cleaning and I throw the balls in my bucket cleaner and I can definitely tell the difference in play the next day. A

Stories of tables with protruding nails/staples/metal obejcts has made me reconsider bringing my own equipment. Though if the balls are bad enough I still MIGHT bring an old CB.

Plus I’ve left a ball behind once and there’s always a chance of having them mysteriously disappear during a bathroom break.

I’ll just use/suffer with what the place has to offer.

I find places with decent tables usually have good balls, so I’ve decided there’s really no need to bring my own.

IMO, play with the available equipment in the room you normally play in. If you play league or any kind of tournament or match you have to play with what they give you. Learn to play with everything, good, bad or indifferent. Good Luck !!

I do bring my own set to commercial rooms when I know that their equipment is not up to my standard. I also bring a clean cotton washcloth - dampen it and wipe down the table surface to remove all the surface chalk / most room tables are dirty and it makes no sense to use new clean pool balls on a dirty table surface. You can buy the cloths in bulk at Walmart for about a $ each - I dispose them as used in the pool room trash - it is worth a buck to keep everything clean for each session.
I also agree with checking a table for exposed nails in the pockets / I ruined a set of balls bc they got nail scratches before I realized what was happening.

I've played in a couple Predator Tour events here and they bring the balls/racks and I'm still trying to get used to the 4 and 7 balls. I like the rack and going to order one for home.

I always bring a set of Centennials even if I don’t intend to play with them at the pool hall.

It is always better to have a set of clean, handsome pool balls and not need them rather than
leave the set at home only to ultimately find out the balls at the pool hall were disappointing.
I also have extra backup sets of Centennials at home. IMO, it hits a home tun for appearance.
Ye Centennials are beautiful balls. Easily my favorite. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but from the first time I played when I was 10 I just loved the look of them.

I bring my Centennials for one reason.

Because I can.
That doesn't sound like much of a reason, it almost sounds like bragging to me. I would have to have a good reason to bring my expensive Centennials to the pool hall and use them. Absolutely, you would get more consistency from those then a set of possibly mixed balls, but you are not going to play league or tournament with the set you bring, but most likely will be using the pool hall sets. People practice on the table they are going to play competition on to get the feel of the table, and I would rather play with the set of balls I am using in competition to get used to them as well. I have a set of dynospheres I keep in the trunk of the car, but I never bring them in because of my reasoning.

so using the balls at that pool room , you are not going to be able to play your regular speed that you do in tournaments at other places around.??

if you just feel its more enjoyable then go for it. have fun.

i bring my own cue but not my own bridge or rack. and i said if i am gambling, i only allow your own cue not any of your special equipment. chalk okay.
you play with what is provided by the house.

In all the years I've been using my own set of balls at the pool room, going back over 30 years, *not once* has someone said, "I'll play but we have to use the house balls."

People like to play with nice equipment instead of dirty, mismatched balls, and a shrunken CB. I understand leagues and tournaments are different and you play with whatever the house has, but matching up no one has a problem and if they did I'd say fine and play with the house balls.

No brag. Just a simple, concise reason.

You do you. No judgement here.

Every comment in here was based on some sort of judgment, there's nothing wrong with judging what somebody has to say and giving your own opinion, that is fine. It's just that you didn't give much of a reason when you made your comment and I wondered what your reasoning was.

You need to get out more.
so you match up with a guy for a big amount and then he brings out his own balls and cue ball. and you say sure that will make the it more pleasurable.

i guess you are not a gambler at pool for any real serious money.
for a couple bucks sure why not. or if you have a dead lock and will lose your customer then yea.
