bringing food into a pool room

A friend just opened a nice room with about 18 tables. He has numerous stools with wide arms which have recesses for drinks. But no tables for eating food.

He serves soft drinks, coffee, snacks, hot dogs and hot pretzels.

He maintains a very clean room with all new cloth, daily cleaning of all equipment, etc.

He is contemplating allowing his patrons to bring in outside food such as sandwiches, pizza, etc.

Pros & Cons

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Maybe he could just allow food and no drinks since he serves beverages. If there is a local eatery nearby maybe he could set up a take out deal with that place of business so people would have more to eat than just pretzels and hot dogs.

We had a room to do this with an IHOP close to me and it worked out good.

Lost revenue

He is losing out on money! Pizza has one of the best retail mark ups out there. finger food wings, cheese sticks, and things like that are what i would look at offering if serving more types of food was an option. Outside food is allowed in a lot of rooms that don't have kitchens, like suggested before rooms create a deal with restaurants and sandwich shops nearby. I have even seen where the shop creates a menu for the room with quick easy to order specials.

Thanks for input

Thanks guys.

Anyone think it's a bad idea to allow outside food?

We have a grill and outside food is not allowed when the grill is open however quality microwave pizza and a vending machine are available at all times. We have tables and a bar to sit at and a loyal customer base so we allow food in only when the grill is closed, usually on Saturday and Sundays if no tournaments are scheduled.

With no tables for eating? I hope he doesn't have carpet.
If I were him, I'd look into a deal with a good nearby eatery if he's lucky enough to have one close. Maybe a percentage from the sales from his patrons and to carry their menu exclusively.

Thanks guys.

Yes

However if you are going to have NO food, you have NO choice, IMHO. The rub is once they leave to go eat, they might not come back.

He is better off getting a hot lamp pizza area and getting pies locally and selling slices at a minimum. A greaseless fryer is always a good idea.

In an establishment you are trying to run as a business, and for a profit. NO NO NO. You sell the drinks, you sell the food. Offer FREE Salts Nuts, or Pop Corn to customers buying drinks because it makes people thirsty. They tend to drink more.

BTW we allow Drinks Only in our Community Pool Room, no cookies, candy, fruit, pizza, or any food is allowed.

As people forget to clean their hands, not on purpose, but because they forget, the cloth get stains on it and looks like crap.
