Broken Butt Cap..What Glue?

I had a player break the butt cap on his older Falcon last night in league. He asked me if I could glue it back together for him as there is nobody around this area that does any work below the joint.

What I need to know is what kind of glue would be best for this. I currently have Loctite gel, 3M 2Ton Epoxy, or the Delrin Glue from Atlas. I'm hoping somebody can tell me what would be the best or if all would work.

Also there is a piece of the cap that we could not find and it is now a chip out of it. How would one fill this to make it look not bad. Use one of the glues?

All information is appreciated. Thanks.

You could scuff the wood with an abrasive and use the two ton, but it would be better if you sent it to a cuesmith for proper repair. Especially if it's chipped.

I have never had any luck with glueing a broken butt cap back together. You need to have a new one made. I charge $30 for these & do them all of the time, so there must be a cuemaker or repairman near you, that would do it...JER

Nearest person would be in Toronto which is about 2 hrs away. Maybe I will look into shipping the cue out to get done. I'm just not sure how much the customer wants to spend?

Thanks for the replies.

Greg.

I would be really polite and see if Mr. Webb there could fix it...he is in your neck of the woods so to speak across the border in the US.

He does GREAT work I hear, just PM him and see what he says...worst case scenario is a No.

These are a couple of pictures of the problem.

Where is Mr. Webb Located Shorty?

No disrespect intended to all but may I recommend to those considering installing buttcaps made of ivory to think twice. Replacing one is an expense not less than humongous. Around $200 or so.

I had to go back and read, thought I missed something, How did we get on Ivory, But for the record, I try to talk all of my customers out of it, Ivory joints and ferrules on the other hand, LET'S TALK.

I'm picking up my new cue this weekend that has Ivory on it. I'm extremely careful with all my cues no matter what price. From $50.00 to the most expensive, I treat them all with great care. I hope I won't run into any problems.

The cue that I posted pictures of was a person that had a temper and continually slammed it against the floor.

Hello,

If you have a lathe that is set up to handle cue repairs replacing a broken butt cap is not that complicated to do. Atlas has a MP Ivory subsitute rod that looks good for replacing the softer material butt caps. Ivorine III works nice also for a real white look, the MP is off white.

I do have a lathe , but I'm only set up to do work on shafts. Due to my lack of space I only purchased a mini Metal lathe. It was originally intended for tips and ferrules and now I have started making shafts, joint protectors, and wraps.
