Broken slate and dead rails- bad news.

G'day everyone.

Had the table mechanic come out this morning. He had one look at the slate laying on its side in the garage and said it can't/shouldn't be fixed. As the slate broke on a 45deg angle and was fixed poorly last time, he believes it would push up on itself when you bring it together.

He was happy to have a go but said he could get new slate for $350 and if I needed to move the table again I wouldn't run the risk of breaking it all over again. I've explained my fears of not getting the pockets in line but he is sure if he takes a half inch of each end of the 7 foot slate it will fit what he measured inside the table and the pockets will match up. I can't get my head around the fact he believes getting a 7 foot slate for Australian tables will have the same pocket size for tables using 2 1/4 inch balls. Anyway he is sure it will work so ill put my trust in him.

The other issue I have is the rails. He said two of the k55 rails were rock hard and he feels I should re do the rubber on the rails for a few hundred.
It gives me an excuse to go for the Ridgeback rails which are get good feedback on here, though the dilemma I have is, being in Australia, a lot of US places don't ship here.

Also, the k55 rails on seyberts (who do ship here) give a whole bunch of options. As I'm not entirely sure what table I have, to get a set of rails sent out to only find they are the wrong set would be heart breaking and costly.

The measurements of the rails are 36inch exactly and it seems that length is not offered on seyberts.(36.5inch is though the mechanic is adamant it would be too big).

So my questions are, and thankyou to those who can offer some help:

• how much better are ridgeback rails than k55.
• if he was to re rubber the k55's that are on the table at the moment, can I order just the rubber to fit the existing rails from anywhere in the states?
• any advice on what rails I should order if I go down the line of new K55's from seyberts?

Sorry for the novel. As anyone who has waited for something can appreciate, it's killing me finally having a table in my home, which I can only look at.
New slate is a fortnight away so I've got a few weeks to sort out the rails.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers.

Dave

Also here is a label I found. Could this be an indication of the table?

It may be easier for you to just replace the rubber on the rail that you already have.

Depending on the cost of getting ridgebacks out to Australia, where could I buy the rubber to replace on the rails I already have?

Finally up and running this morning.

The pockets are very generous but I still miss so I look forward to getting some ridgebacks in the near future.

Thankyou to everyone, especially Glenn for the advice.
