The reason I am making this post to help out those members who buy older house cues for conversion. In most cases Brunswick Balk Collender one piece cue are great for the conversion. The wood is well seasoned, and they are normally large enough in diameter for conversion with no problem.

However, I was on eBay earlier this evening and I noticed a number of Brunswick Balk Collender Challenger one piece cues being offered by a seller.

The Challenger one piece was the cheapest one piece made by Brunswick from the 1940's until the early 1960's. These cues were so cheap in fact that they solid Maple from bumper to ferrule, with the points and the wood below points painted on to look like different hardwoods.

If some members see these cues and think that they may be good for conversion you may want to rethink that, unless you plan to convert a 57 inch piece of Maple into something else!!!!;)

Hope this helps.

I would think that if it was painted maple...and straight...might be some great shaft wood..

The one I have seen over the years were terrible. These cues were the bottom of the line for Brunswick, and I think they used wood they would not use for anything else.

Take care

That is great info thanks. What do you think about the Tru-Balance cues for conversion? I just got 12 of them a few weeks back when I bought a 1945 Brunswick Centennial. I was thinking about having one converted.
